Replace air
conditioner filters. Dirty filters restrict airflow and can cause
the system to run longer, increasing energy use. Replace filters
monthly for maximum benefits. Set the thermostat at 24C or at
the warmest comfortable temperatures. Turn your air conditioner
off when nobody is going to be at home..
Unplug electronic devices and
chargers when they aren’t in use most new electronics
use electricity even when switched off, turn computers and printers
off at the power strip.
Turn off appliances, lights and
equipment when not in use.
Draw draperies
and window shades on the sunny side of the house to block heat
from sunlight.
Turn off any lights when they
are not needed, and take advantage of natural lighting. Remember
that light-colored walls and ceiling make room brighter.
Install compact
fluorescent lamps (CFLS) where possible, CFLs use about one quarter
of the energy and last up to 10 times longer than regular incandescent
lamps.
Save in the Kitchen
Refrigerators and freezers are
big users of electricity. Consider replacing old refrigerators
with a new energy efficient refrigerator.
Reduce the number of times the refrigerator or freezer is opened.
When using the
dish or cloth washer wash only full loads of dishes, clothes and
air dry them.
