The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority exerts tremendous efforts to produce, transmit and distribute electricity to all consumers in different sectors, such as residential, commercial, industrial and other sectors, with high quality and efficiency.
Each year, the demand for electricity and water increases considerably, which requires DEWA to invest heavily to meet this incremental growing demand and higher consumption
rates.
Conserving resources and proper demand management contributes in making the most of our resources and boosts the efficiency of electricity and water. In addition, it cuts down costs for DEWA and, more importantly, for ‘you.’
For your kind information:
• The high electrical peak hours in Dubai are between 12 noon and 5 p.m. during
the summer season.
• Wasting energy during these hours necessitates DEWA to invest heavily to meet this growing demand; invariably more fuel is needed for producing electricity, for meeting such higher demand rates.
• Turning off less-critical electrical appliances like electrical irons, washers and dryers, dish washers, water heaters, electrical ovens, etc. during electrical
peak times … and operating them during off-peak times leads to an efficient and reliable electrical system. In addition, it also saves fuel used in power generation, and facilitates for the conserving of natural resources and in reducing emissions.
• Air-conditioning represents 60% of the load on electrical peak times; reducing usage of these appliances also reduces electricity bills for the consumer and increases the overall reliability and efficiency of the electrical system.
• If every customer turned the air-conditioning up from 20C to 24C during electrical peak, it will lead to:
* Avoiding the installation of about 300 megawatts electrical production units.
* Saving 270 million kilowatts-hours per year worth AED 81 million, which is sufficient to provide 11,000 apartments with electricity for a whole year.
* Saving approximately 160 thousand tons of emissions.
Dear Customer
Our resources are precious; protecting them and using them rationally is everyone’s responsibility. Preserve them for our future generations. We can accomplish this by adopting the following methods:
1. Avoid turning on electrical appliances during peak hours (12 noon to 5 p.m.),
instead operate them during off-peak hours, especially in the summer season.
2. Adjust air-conditioning to 24C at the place of your work or residence.
3. Adjust air-conditioning to 28C or switch off once you leave the place.
4. Use a programmable thermostat to control air-conditioning.
5. Turn off the lights during daylight times.
6. Turn off lights in the places where you are not present.
7. Irrigate your garden / water plants at night times or very early in the morning, to reduce water evaporation and water consumption levels.
Dear Industrial Customer
You can contribute to enhancing the service provided to you, and to all customers, by increasing the efficiency of the electrical system, improving system reliability, conserving natural resources and cutting down polluting emissions. This can be achieved by taking the following measures:
• Shifting of operation hours of some processes, where and when possible, from peak times
(12 noon to 5 p.m.) to off-peak times.
• Using efficient industrial equipment and high-quality production lines to decrease energy consumption levels for each production unit; this can reduce the production costs for the company.
