HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviews DEWA’s job opportunities and scholarships for Emiratis at Careers UAE 2018

HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, visited the stand of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) during its participation in Careers UAE 2018. DEWA’s officials briefed HH Sheikh Mansour about its initiatives in Emiratisation and scholarships, and its efforts to attract Emiratis, especially for technical and engineering jobs. DEWA receives job and scholarship applications for Emiratis at its stand (A3-2 in Hall 4) at Careers UAE, which is held from 13 to 15 March at Dubai World Trade Centre.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasised that DEWA is keen to take part in Careers UAE, which is a leading platform that brings together Emirati professionals and employers.

“DEWA adopts an integrated strategy to increase Emiratisation in line with the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. DEWA’s Emiratisation plans contribute to the development of the UAE's energy and water sector by preparing a generation that recognises the importance of professional work, and DEWA’s strategy to prepare Emiratis to lead the energy and water sectors. Emirati youth have the necessary capabilities and expertise required to enable DEWA to achieve its vision and ambitious plans and contribute to transforming Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world. DEWA has so far achieved excellent results in Emiratisation, with UAE nationals comprising 86% of senior management and 51% in middle management,” said Al Tayer.

“By participating in the Career Fair, we seek to attract experienced and fresh graduates to join DEWA. This supports our Emiratisation plans, especially in engineering and technical jobs, and our strategy to appoint Emiratis to management positions across all divisions. We also aim to practically and academically prepare young Emiratis through top-tier training programmes in collaboration with a number of the best universities and institutes inside and outside the UAE," added Al Tayer.

“DEWA has many programmes to train and prepare Emiratis in the engineering and technical fields as part of its Emiratisation plan, especially after its success in the Emiratisation of many administrative and financial jobs. We have many training programmes for Emirati students to complete their studies in the UAE or abroad in mechanical and electrical engineering, and in renewable energy,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.

At Careers UAE 2018, DEWA presents the scholarships it provides to Emirati students. These include a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, in collaboration with the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai (Dubai Men’s College); Bachelor’s degrees in either electrical or mechanical engineering in collaboration with different government and private universities; a Bachelor’s degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University; and a Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering for 60 students in private universities; 20 scholarships in renewable energy at Sharjah University, and 10 scholarships in renewable energy in universities abroad.

DEWA also highlights the DEWA Academy, which trains and qualifies young Emiratis both academically and practically in various technical and professional areas covering production, transmission and distribution of energy and water, and water desalination. Graduates will receive their diplomas from the UK’s Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC), one of the pioneering vocational organisations in the world. The certificates are equivalent to vocational high-school diplomas, enabling graduates to work in different technical fields at DEWA. Students from the DEWA Academy present several projects at DEWA’s stand at Careers UAE.
