Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) participated in the 6th Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE), under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The exhibition was held under the theme ‘Government Practices… Global Achievements.’ It was organised by the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP), part of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai, from 9—11 April 2018, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The exhibition shows DEWA’s most important projects, initiatives and programmes to enhance the sustainability of the energy sector. This supports DEWA’s strategy to enhance and exchange experiences and best practices in government work.

“We support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to promote Dubai’s global position in hosting the most important conferences, events, and business tourism. We are participating in the sixth Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE) to review our most important projects and initiatives, to share best practices and the best international experiences in government work. This consolidates the concepts of innovation and creativity, and enhances fruitful partnerships with leading international organisations in government work,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“The exhibition provides a unique platform to review the world's leading companies and services and what they provide to the public sector. It also gives visitors access to DEWA’s projects and services. DEWA is moving towards a pioneering path to achieve a qualitative leap in quality of life. It implements development projects based on the pillars of sustainability and innovation, to improve its services to the highest standards of efficiency, reliability, and availability, and achieve the highest levels of happiness for its customers and stakeholders,” added Al Tayer.

DEWA reviewed its most important projects, initiatives and programmes in energy and sustainability, mainly models done by the students participating the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME). DEWA also reviewed the hydroelectric power station that will make use of the water stored in the Hatta Dam. In addition, DEWA displayed a model of its new headquarters, called Al-Shera’a, which is Arabic for ‘sail.’ The new building will be the tallest, largest, and smartest public Zero Energy Building in the world.

DEWA’s platform also includes the Shams Dubai initiative to encourage building owners to install photovoltaic panels to produce electricity from solar power and connect them to DEWA’s network, and the Green Charger initiative, to motivate the public to use environmentally-friendly electric vehicles. DEWA also demonstrated its latest experiences and best practices in smart transformation, smart meters, its website and smart application.

Through its platform (Hall 8 - DIGAE FCS -B4), DEWA highlighted that it has achieved significant savings in electricity and water across all sectors. Between 2009 and 2017, customers saved over 1.677 TW/h of electricity and 6.66 billion gallons of water, worth over AED 1 billion. The savings resulted in offsetting around 900,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
