DEWA's Women's Committee organises open health day for female employees

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised an open health day for its female employees to raise awareness of breast cancer, in cooperation with Pink Caravan, a pan-UAE breast cancer awareness initiative launched in 2011 by the Friends of Cancer Patients Society. The open day, in cooperation with DEWA’s Health and Safety department, also raised awareness on other chronic diseases such as diabetes, and heart disease, as well as health problems related to nutrition and skin. This comes as part of DEWA and the Women’s Committee’s commitment to support female employees, ensure their satisfaction and psychological stability, and motivate them in a healthy and unique environment.

The event was held in the Innovation Tent at DEWA’s headquarters, with the participation of many employees, who underwent comprehensive medical examinations, benefiting from the awareness sessions and advice from the medical teams. The open health day concluded with a sports challenge between female employees which stressed on the importance of sports and its sustainable impact in promoting physical and psychological health, increasing positivity and teamwork.

“In line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA is keen to ensure the happiness, good health and well-being of its female employees. This helps them balance their personal and practical lives, adopt healthy lifestyles, and consider sports as a lifestyle. This is positively reflected on their professional roles and also personal life outside DEWA, so they are better able to take care of the youth, and actively participate in society development. The activities at the open health day are especially important as they are associated with health, which is one of the most fundamental factors for individuals and their ability to develop. Such events instill a healthy culture amongst female employees, establish the foundations of awareness and knowledge, and ensure a healthy and safe environment,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer stressed on DEWA’s eagerness to support social initiatives that relate to male and female employees, take part in in all activities, and extend bridges of communication and cooperation with all relevant parties to achieve happiness for all.

Large number of DEWA’s female employees took part in the open health day. They took advantage of the medical examinations, and increased their knowledge through the awareness sessions and educational lectures, especially with regard to breast cancer and various other chronic diseases. The open health day aimed to encourage female employees to take preventive measures, to avoid such diseases. This helps them play their role in development without any obstacles leading to a healthy and happy working environment.

DEWA Women’s Committee organised the open health days for DEWA’s female employees in conjunction with several international health occasions, including the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, internationally corresponding with October of every year; World Diabetes Day on 14 November; and World Heart Day, celebrated on 28 September.
