DEWA seeks to attract national talent and promote inclusive employment at Careers UAE 2019

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in Careers UAE 2019 to highlight job opportunities for Emiratis, especially in the technical and engineering sectors, posts for people of determination and scholarships for Emirati students. This is part of its Emiratisation strategy to attract Emirati talent. DEWA welcomes visitors at its stand A3-2 in Hall 3 at Dubai World Trade Centre. The exhibition runs until 21 March 2019.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, noted that each year, DEWA participates in Careers UAE, which is an ideal platform to meet job seekers, fresh graduates, and students. This is part of its strategy and commitment to nurture, empower, and attract national talent. DEWA’s Emiratisation strategy includes innovative programmes and plans to train and prepare Emiratis in the engineering and technical fields. DEWA also provides various scholarships for students wishing to pursue further studies in renewable and conventional energy inside the UAE and abroad. Al Tayer emphasised that Emirati youth possess the capabilities and expertise to enable DEWA to achieve its vision and ambitious plans and contribute to transforming Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world.

“By participating in Careers UAE and other career fairs in the UAE, we aim to attract experienced and fresh-graduate Emiratis to work at DEWA, particularly in engineering and technical roles. This supports our Emiratisation plan to prepare Emiratis to spearhead the energy and water sectors and appoint Emiratis in leading professional positions in DEWA’s divisions and departments. DEWA has achieved excellent results in Emiratisation, with Emiratis comprising 86.44% of senior management and 50.8% in middle management. DEWA has 3,110 Emirati employees. DEWA is also committed to achieving the UAE National Agenda goals for inclusive employment, to develop the capabilities of people of determination and provide them with professional and operational skills that support their economic and social independence,” said Al Tayer.

Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, noted that DEWA is working to reach the highest-possible level of Emiratisation in engineering and technical roles. It also provides various educational programmes for Emirati students who wish to continue their studies in mechanical and electrical engineering as well as renewable energy.

Al Akraf emphasised that DEWA focuses on the concept of inclusive employment through its stand at UAE Careers 2019, to provide equal opportunities for all, including people of determination. DEWA’s stand complies with the Dubai Universal Design Code to make it accessible for people of determination. DEWA also provides the information and application forms based on Dubai Smart Government’s standards using the best supporting smart devices that suit people of determination. DEWA’s stand also includes recruitment staff qualified in dealing with people of determination and using sign language as well as staff who are people of determination.

At Careers UAE 2019, DEWA also highlights DEWA Academy, which trains and qualifies young Emiratis both academically and vocationally in various technical and professional areas covering production, transmission and distribution of energy and water, and water desalination. Graduates receive their diplomas from the UK’s Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC), one of the pioneering vocational-rehabilitation organisations in the world. The certificates are equivalent to vocational high-school diplomas, enabling graduates to work in different technical fields at DEWA.

Visitors to DEWA’s stand can scan a QR code using a mobile phone to go directly to the application pages, which provides 3 choices: applying for a job, applying for a scholarship, and applying to join DEWA’s Academy.
