As part of its role as a socially responsible government organisation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating as a strategic partner of the 14th annual autism awareness campaign. The campaign is organised by Dubai Autism Centre under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. The campaign is held under the theme ‘We Unite for Them’, and continues throughout April 2019 to raise awareness about the need to integrate children with autism in society.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, commended the campaign launched by Dubai Autism Centre, emphasising its importance in achieving the ‘National Policy to Empower People of Determination’, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families.

“DEWA is committed to supporting pioneering social initiatives, especially those that empower people of determination in an adaptive and flexible environment that allows them to unleash their potential and prove their capabilities. This is part of DEWA’s role as a socially-responsible government organisation and supports the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to make Dubai an inclusive and cohesive society that embraces common civic values whose cohesive families and communities form the bedrock of society. It also supports the ‘My Community... a City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly for people of determination, by 2020,” said Al Tayer.

In addition to its CSR and volunteering programmes and initiatives, DEWA sponsors many activities and events that serve people of determination. DEWA supported 10 CSR programmes related to people of determination in 2018. These included 7 sponsorships and three community initiatives. These efforts contributed to raising society’s happiness about DEWA’s role as an organisation that supports people of determination to  90.26% in 2018. DEWA has received many local and international awards in corporate social responsibility (CSR), including the Princess Haya Award for Special Education and the ‘People of Determination Friendly Government Entity’ award at the 21st Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) 2018. DEWA also received the MVO8000 in CSR, becoming the first government organisation in Dubai to receive this global recognition.
