Conservation Award Categories

Distinguished Education Institutions in Conservation Category

This category aims to motivate and honour institutions with efficient strategies and realistic targets; have executed innovative initiatives, and achieved significant results in electricity and water savings.

ELIGIBILITY

All government and private educational institutions and centres for people of determination in the Emirate of Dubai can participate in this category.

CRITERIA

TECHNICAL PARAMETERS 85%

Energy efficiency: Achieving a reduction of not less than 15% in energy consumption.  35%
Water efficiency: Achieving a reduction of not less than 15% in water consumption. 35%
Energy and water-efficiency technologies: Conduct technical improvements and retrofit to improve energy efficiency, such as:
  • Installing smart technologies such as motion sensors for lights in classrooms and hallways.
  • Using renewable energy such as solar or other clean energy sources.
  • Utilising recycled water for irrigation and other uses.

AWARENESS PARAMETERS 30%


Environmental activities: Participate in local and global environmental events and engage students within the institution, which support the conservation of electricity and water.  5%
Lectures and workshops: Organise and encourage students to adopt, through lectures, awareness programmes on conservation practices. 5%
Social media channels: Spread awareness on electricity and water conservation through the institution’s social media platforms using  #ConservationAward

What is the prize?

Winners will be awarded from each educational level, Government and Private sector, as follows:

The Award Coordinator will be awarded as well.

Terms and Conditions

  • The premises of the institution needs to be occupied from 1st January 2018, or earlier.
  • Fill in the registration form online by visiting www.dewa.gov.ae
  • Appoint a General Coordinator to coordinate between the management of the educational institute and the management of the award.
  • Incomplete, or late entries after the submission deadline, will be disqualified. The jury has the right to withhold or cancel any application if it does not comply with the terms and/or does not submit the required documents/evidence.
  • The judging committee may request additional supporting documents from the applicants and may also conduct visits to their respective sites during the evaluation period.
  • Last date to submit the application: Thursday, 26th March 2020.

Distinguished Conservation Leader

This category aims to motivate and honour principals/heads of institutions, who have shown exceptional interest in adopting best practices, accomplish innovative initiatives and raise the level of the respective educational institution to achieve significant results in electricity and water savings.

ELIGIBILITY

Principals, headmasters and headmistresses or authorised representatives on his/her behalf from the educational institution are eligible to participate in this category.

CRITERIA

Energy and water efficiency: To support achieving savings of at least 15% reduction in electricity and water consumption Within the educational institution. 25%
Energy and water-efficiency technologies: Apply energy and water-efficiency technologies within the educational institution. 20%
Lectures and workshops: Encourage students to adopt conservation practices through organising lectures and awareness programmes that contribute to the conservation of electricity and water consumption. 10%
Environmental activities: Participate in local and global environmental events and engage students within the institution, to support the conservation of electricity and water. 10%
Social media channels: Spread awareness on electricity and water conservation through the institution’s social media platforms using  #ConservationAward

Distinguished Conservation Leader Tasks

  • Nominate Award Coordinator for the educational institution category.
  • Nominate Conservation Team Leader.
  • Nominate a Project Manager for the distinguished Conservation Project
    (High schools, Universities and Colleges).
  • Nominate the Distinguished Parent, and most active with the administration to achieve the award’s objectives.
  • Implement the above criteria.

Distinguished Conservation Team Category

This category aims to motivate and honour the conservation team, in both government and private educational institutions, who adopt best practices in electricity and water conservation.

ELIGIBILITY

All nursery, Kindergarten, secondary and primary students of government and private schools and centres for people of determination can participate.

CRITERIA

Innovation and creativity: Implement innovative and creative initiatives that contribute to conservation awareness and reduce electricity and water consumption.

Lectures and workshops: Organise lectures, workshops and awareness programmes on the importance of electricity and water conservation within the school premises.

Environmental activities: Organise or participate in local or global environmental events supporting electricity and water conservation.

Distinguished Conservation Project Category

This category aims to motivate and honour students of high schools, universities and colleges to develop practical and innovative project(s) in the form of applied model designed to increase efficiency levels in electricity or water consumption, or both, within the respective educational institution in compliance with the award framework.

ELIGIBILITY

All government and private high schools, universities and college students, located in the Emirate of Dubai.

CRITERIA

Innovation: The project concept and implementation to be innovative and creative. 15%
Training workshops: Attending workshops/meetings that will be held by DEWA. 20%
Social media channels: Spread awareness on water and electricity conservation through the social media platforms using #ConservationAward

Terms and Conditions

  • Fill in the registration form online by visiting www.dewa.gov.ae
  • The project should achieve a saving in electricity or water consumption or in both within the educational institution.
  • The team must be the owner of the project idea, and the idea should be practical, applicable, and efficient.
  • Entries that have previously won or been announced as winners in any contest will not be accepted.
  • Maximum 3 members can participate in each project.
  • Last date to submit the project idea is on 10th of October 2019.
  • Adhere to the following phases “for eligible projects only”:
    • First Phase: Attending all training workshops in November 2019.
    • Second Phase: Presentation of the applied model (for eligible projects from Phase I) to the jury for the final evaluation in 16th January 2020.
    • Third Phase: Present the applied model in front the jury for final evaluation in March 2020.
  • DEWA has the right to use winning entries, when and where require.
  • Incomplete or late entries after the deadline will be disqualified. The jury has the right to withhold or cancel any application if it does not comply with the terms and conditions or does not have the required documents or evidence.
