Distinguished Education Institutions in Conservation Category

This category recognises institutions that have efficient strategies and realistic targets in place, have executed innovative initiatives, and achieved significant results in electricity and water savings.


What is the Criteria?

Technical Parameters

Energy efficiency: Achieving a reduction of not less than 15% in energy consumption. 20%
Water efficiency: Achieving a reduction of not less than 15% in water consumption. 20%
Energy and water-efficiency technology: Conduct technical improvements and
retrofits to improve energy efficiency, such as:
  • Installing smart technologies, such as motion sensors for lights in classrooms and hallways.
  • Using renewable energy, such as solar or other clean energy sources.
  • Utilising recycled water for irrigation and other uses.

Awareness Parameters

Environmental activities: Participate in local and global environmental events and engage students within the institution, which support the conservation of electricity and water.

Lectures and workshops: Organise and encourage students to adopt,through lectures and awareness programmes, conservation practices.

Innovation and creativity: Implement innovative and creative initiatives that contribute to conservation of electricity and water. 10%
 Social media channels: Spreading awareness on water and electricity conservation through the institution’s social media platforms and using the hashtag #ConservationAward

Who is Eligible to Participate? 

All public and private educational institutions and centres for people with determination in the Emirate of Dubai can participate in this category.

What is the Prize?

Winners will be awarded from each educational level, Public and Private sector, as follows:

(University / College, High School, Elementary, Primary, Kindergarten / Nursery)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  1. Registration and participation is open only to institutions located in the Emirate of Dubai.
  2. The institution premises needs to be occupied from 1 January 2018, or earlier.
  3.  Applications to be downloaded from www.dewa.gov.ae, filled and sent to email address conservationaward@dewa.gov.ae.
  4. Last date to accept the application: 14 March 2019.
  5. Incomplete, or late entries after the submission deadline, will be disqualified. The jury has the right to withhold or cancel any application if it does not comply with the terms and conditions, or does not submit the required documents/evidence.
  6. The judging committee may request additional supporting documents from the applicants and may also conduct visits to their respective sites during the evaluation period.


Technical Parameters

Distinguished Conservation Leader

This category aims to motivate and honour principals, who have shown exceptional interest in adopting the best practices to achieve innovative initiatives and raise the level of the respective educational institution, to achieve significant results in electricity and water savings.


What is the Criteria?

To support achieving savings of at least 15% reduction in electricity and water consumption.

Apply energy and water-efficiency technologies inside the educational institute.

Participate in local and global environmental events and engage students within the institution, which support the conservation of electricity and water. 10%
Encourage students to adopt conservation practices through organising lectures and awareness programmes. 10%
To support innovation and creative initiatives that contribute to the conservation of electricity and water consumption 15%
Spreading awareness on water and electricity conservation through the institution’s social media platforms and using the hashtag #ConservationAward. 10%



Who is Eligible to Participate?

Principals, headmasters and headmistresses or authorised representatives on his / her behalf from the educational institute are eligible to participate in this category.

 Distinguished Conservation Leader Tasks:

  1. Nominate Award Coordinator for the educational institution category.
  2. Nominate Conservation Team Leader.
  3. Nominate a Project Manager for the Distinguished Conservation Project (High schools, Universities and Colleges).
  4. Form the Distinguished Conservation Team and nominate five members for the Award.
  5. Nominate the Unknown Soldier (cleaner, gardener, guard) who has helped to reduce electricity and water-wastage levels.
  6. Implement the above criteria.
  7. Validate the Award application and supporting documents for all categories.

Distinguished Conservation Team Category

This category aims to motivate and honour the conservation team, in both public and private educational institutions, who adopt best practices in electricity and water conservation.

THE CRITERIA

Implement innovative and creative initiatives that contribute to conservation awareness and reduce electricity and water consumption.

Organise lectures, workshops and awareness programmes on the importance of electricity and water conservation within the school premises.

Organise or participate in local or global environmental events supporting electricity and water conservation.

Spread awareness on water and electricity conservation through the institutions social media platforms and using the hashtag #ConservationAward.

Encourage participation in “Ideal Home Initiative” among the staff, administrators and students.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?

All secondary and primary students of public, private schools and centres for people with determination can participate.

Distinguished Conservation Project Category

This category aims to motivate and honour students of high school, universities and colleges to develop practical and innovative project(s) in the form of applied model designed to increase the efficiency of electricity or water consumption, or both, within the educational institution in compliance with the award framework and serving its primary purpose.



CRITERIA

 Technical Parameter The project to achieve saving in electricity or water consumption, or both, inside the educational institute.   20%
 Innovation The project concept and implementation to be innovative and creative.   15%
 Knowledge Sharing Attending the workshops and meetings that will be held by DEWA.   10%
Spread awareness on water and electricity conservation through the social media platforms and using the hashtag #ConservationAward.   10%
Submission of Materials First Stage: Submission of the initial study of the project idea based on three references at least (books, project specialists, research papers, etc.).   10%
 Second Stage: Submission of the project report (5-20 pages).   15%
Third Stage: Submission of a video demonstrating the project (MP4 format, not exceeding five minutes)   20%

Terms and Conditions:

  • Registration is open to all students from high schools, universities and colleges located in the Emirate of Dubai.
  • Applications to be downloaded from www.dewa.gov.ae, filled and sent to email address conservationaward@dewa.gov.ae.
  • The team must be the owner of the project idea, and the idea should be practical, applicable, and efficient.
  • Project submission reports should be delivered before the following dates:
    • First Stage: November 15, 2018.
    • Second Stage (shortlisted candidates only): February 28, 2019.
    • Third Stage (shortlisted candidates only): March 14, 2019.
  • Entries that have previously won or been announced as winners in any contest will not be accepted.
  • Incomplete, late entries after the deadline will be disqualified. The jury has the right to withhold or cancel any application if it does not comply with the terms and conditions or does not submit the required documents or evidence.
  • It should be noted that DEWA is the sponsor of the project and has the right to use winning entries (for promoting conservation, if found suitable).
  • The judging committee may request additional supporting documents from the applicants and may also conduct visits to their respective sites during the evaluation period (if required).
