Ideal Home is a pioneering and integrated public initiative launched by DEWA and in cooperation with nine Government entities.
The overriding goal of the initiative is to instill and nurture a culture of an ideal home environment amongst families in Dubai through the fulfillment of varied and integrated requirements of ten government partners. This ensured identifying and recognizing those households that achieve highest standards of sustainability, health and safety, security, environment, social responsibility, smart adoption, emergency preparation and abiding with the residency law.

Best practices for an Ideal Home
Adopting the following practices will ensure you an ideal, sustainable environment at home:
Conserve Electricity & Water:
Use energy-efficient light bulbs.
Use environmentally friendly devices and appliances.
Set the AC to 24C.
Use water-saving tools and smart irrigation systems (for villas).
Use solar-powered appliances.
Run washing machines with a full load.
Turn off unnecessary lights, and make use of natural light as much as possible.
Ensure good quality of indoor air at home, by supplying the building with mechanical ventilation or mixed ventilation (mechanical and natural) so that the amount of external air entering the building meets the minimum requirements for ventilation.
Safely store disinfectants, detergents, and personal care equipment.
Get rid of expired products.
Match the identification card with the approved specifications (brand, trade name, usage instructions, warnings, storage conditions and validity).
Place fire extinguisher in a convenient and easily accessible location. The best place to put the extinguisher in most cases is near the door or at the entrance of the house out of the reach of children.
Verify the production and expiry date of the fire extinguisher.
Place fire blanket in the right place, such as a kitchen, to extinguish flammable liquids fires such as oils, fats, paint, and gasoline. The fire blanket is an easy-to-use fire extinguisher to deal with household fires caused by gas ovens during cooking.
Family members should know how to use a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket.
Install smoke detector.
Conduct periodic maintenance of electric cables.
Conduct regular maintenance of gas installations.
Ensure closing gas cylinders before bed or when leaving home.
Family participation in activities that support the rights of People of Determination such as celebrations, marathons, open days, and volunteering.
Family members know and have the skills to deal with people of determination and elderly people.
Family members can register for providing the necessary training for of those caring for the elderly, to develop the competence of caregivers of older people in their homes and qualify them to deal with them with all situations.
Participate in volunteer work, through the Dubai Volunteering Programme on the website of the Community Development Authority’s website, or the Dubai Volunteer application.
Register via DubaiID, this service allows you to complete government related tasks in a faster and more efficient way, like accessing over 600 government services from different 20 government entities with one username & password.
Obtain the required permissions for home front entrance landscape. The application for permits is submitted through one of the branches of customer service offices of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai or through DEWA’s website.
Use environmentally-friendly accessories (recycled, smart, low-power, etc).
