DEWA’s Metaverse Journey:
DEWA’s digital transformation journey begun early on. It was one of the first government entities to complete its services digital transformation in 2014.
DEWA was also proactive in adopting Metaverse technologies, and some of its major milestones in this area include:
Adopting the use of DEWA smart App on Google Glass in 2014, creating a new leap in the quality of services provided. The application was specifically designed to suit DEWA needs by enabling engineers to monitor any malfunctions in DEWA stations.
In 2016, DEWA adopted the Microsoft HoloLens to enhance its operations, and improve productivity. DEWA is also the first government entity to adopt this technology in the utility sector.
DEWA also adopted the smart helmet and smart glasses (DAQRI) in 2017, which uses VR technology to help engineers working in power stations to achieve their tasks.
DEWA held the 22nd Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show 2020 virtually. It was held through a 3D virtual platform for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, helping visitors and exhibitors to take part without travelling.
DEWA also provides the virtual reality studio and employee self-service kiosk for its employees. The VR studio shows simulations for first aid, fire and safety and information on DEWA’s projects, strategies, and services for employees and customers.
In 2021, DEWA launched its Distribution Power Virtual Reality (VR) project. It provides a 3D virtual experience of ‘Walk inside of 132/11 kV substations, as well as interactive training, simulation and visualisation modules of various equipment in the distribution network.
DEWA launched an innovative experience in 2022 at DEWA’s Innovation Centre, located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. It has developed a digital guide which enables visitors to tour the Centre using Augmented Reality.
In 2023, DEWA became a founding partner in the Global Collaboration Village of the World Economic Forum.
What is DEWAverse?
DEWA launched DEWAverse recently, to provide its services to its customers and employees, in the Metaverse world. Making it the 1st local government entity to launch its virtual platform using Metaverse technology.
DEWA invested in Metaverse technology to implement and develop its current and future projects for various stakeholders, including employees, customers and all members of the society. Which will contribute to achieve their happiness in addition to contributing to the development of businesses, raising the level of efficiency and production, and reducing cost.
