DEWA organizes a number of environmental activities annually to support the global and local efforts in conservation, as part of its efforts to promote a culture of sustainability, energy and water conservations. So we invite you to join us and participate in these environmental events within your educational institution.
World Water Day
World Water Day dates back to the 1992 United Nations conference on Environment and Development where an international observance day for water was recommended to raise awareness of the issues related to the preservation of water and its sources.
Earth Hour
Earth Hour is one of the largest global volunteer environmental action event, when millions of individuals around the world meet to raise awareness of the environmental crises facing the planet, by turning off the lights and unnecessary appliances for a full hour. DEWA organises “Earth Hour” event under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai.
Earth Day
Earth Day is a global event held in April 22nd of each year, in support of efforts to preserve the environment, and raise awareness about the environmental crises facing the world. Earth Day is celebrated in more than 193 countries by organising a variety of interactive activities in the framework of international efforts to promote awareness on Climate Change, to protect the planet.
World Environment Day
In 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) designated 5th of June to celebrate “World Environment Day”. This day is consistent with the objectives of the UAE leadership’s vision for national environmental protection and conserving natural resources, and positions the nation on the global map in relation to environmental action.
World Energy Day
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, assigned the World Energy Day at the World Energy Forum 2012 in the Emirate of Dubai, where it was agreed to allocate 22nd October every year. The day ensures the provision of safe and sustainable energy for all, and to determine the need to develop national policies that reflect a global perspective of energy, and other objectives aimed at diversifying the energy mix.
Green Week
Green Week coincides with leading environmentally-focused events such as WETEX and World Green Economy Summit. The objective is to spread a culture of sustainability and green solutions among the community in order to urge people to take action to protect the environment.
