Grant of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – exemption of electricity connection fees

Requirements

On 4 February 2020, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, directed the exemption of new Emirati owners of houses that do not exceed AED 4 million from paying electricity connection fees. This eases their financial burden and ensure family stability.

Emiratis who meet the conditions need to submit the following documents:

  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of building permit
  • Original construction contract
  • Application reference number
  • On-site map of the plot

When did this decision take effect?

The decision became effective on 5 February 2020.

Does the exemption apply to citizens of other emirates?

Yes, if they have granted land in Dubai.

Does it apply for youth only?

The decision applies to all Emiratis who build their houses for the first time.

Does the exemption apply to plot of land that are granted by the government or through inheritance?

Both are entitled for the exemption.

Does the exemption apply for additional constructions?

No. Additional constructions are not covered.

Does the exemption apply on multiple villas constructed on one plot?

Yes, provided that each villa’s total construction cost does not exceed AED 4,000,000

I received the estimate before 5 February 2020 but haven’t paid yet. Will I be exempted from paying the fees?

Yes, provided the house is for residence and the total construction cost does not exceed AED 4,000,000

I made a partial payment before 5 February 2020. Will I be exempted from the remaining amount?

Yes. The remaining amount after 5 February 2020 will be exempted.
