Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which DEWA is implementing, is the largest single-site solar park in the world, using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It will have a production capacity of 5,000MW by 2030 with a total investment of AED 50 billion. Upon its completion, the Solar Park will reduce more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The total capacity of the solar energy projects commissioned at the solar park has reached 2,627MW from photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP). The total capacity of the projects under construction at the solar park is 433MW from CSP technology. DEWA has increased the share of clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix to about 16% of its total installed capacity, which has reached 16,270 MW. The Solar Park supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of its energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.


Phases of energy production

  • The 13MW 1st Phase uses PV panels and became operational in October 2013. It reduces 15,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

  • The 800MW 3rd Phase uses PV panels and became fully operational in April 2020. It reduces 1.055 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
  • The 950MW 4th Phase combines 700MW from CSP and 250MW using PV panels. It will reduce 1.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually when completed.
  • The 900MW 5th Phase uses PV and became fully operational in June 2023. It reduces 1.18 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
  • The 1800MW 6th Phase uses PV. It will reduce 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually when completed. It will become operational in stages:
    • Stage 1 (600 MW) by 2024.
    • Stage 2 (400 MW) by 2025.
    • Stage 3 (800 MW) by 2026
