Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated the 47th National Day in an atmosphere of distinguished national heritage. The day was filled with historical activities that underline the UAE’s national identity and belonging to the Union that was consolidated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. The celebrations, under the slogan ‘Zayed … always in our hearts,’ were attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents and staff. Dr. Rafia Ghubash, Founder of the Women’s Museum; Ishaq Alhammadi, UAE Country Manager at Saudi Arabia’s Aqua Power; Abdul Hamid Al Muhaidib, Executive Managing Director of Noor Energy 1, Emirati poets Musabah Ali Al Kaabi and Rashid bin Ghalaita Al Ghafli, Saudi poet Abdullah bin Hejab bin Naheet; and Abdullah Ismail were also present. A large number of customers took part in the National Day celebrations.

In his keynote speech, Al Tayer extended his warmest congratulations to HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; Their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council and Rulers of the Emirates; Their Highnesses the Crown Princes, Their Highnesses the Deputy Rulers; and the UAE’s citizens and residents.

“This day reminds us of the efforts of our Founding Fathers, especially as this is the Year of Zayed, which commemorates the centennial birth of the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; may his soul rest in peace. We remember the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and the rest of the Founding Fathers who consolidated the foundations of a nation that has achieved, in few years, what other nations took centuries to achieve.

The UAE tops global indicators in various areas. DEWA is honoured to be part of these global achievements, which make every Emirati and resident proud. The UAE’s comprehensive development has become a source of inspiration to other countries regionally and globally. This is built on the foresight of our wise leadership’s vision that embraces creativity and innovation as key pillars for building a better tomorrow; for us and for generations to come,” said Al Tayer.

“On this national occasion, we are proud of the Union and remember the nation’s martyrs. We honour the Emirati martyrs whose sacrifices represent the noblest examples of good citizenship. They gave their lives to defend their land so that our flag remains raised high and we enjoy security, peace, and stability. This young nation, under our wise leadership, has become a role model for co-existence, tolerance, openness, and cohesion between the leaders and their people. We vow to do everything to defend our homeland and work hard in gratitude to our generous country, inspired by the Spirit of the Union that motivates and energises us to honest hard work and boundless generosity. We remain faithful to the spirits of the Founding Fathers and follow the path of the brave heroes who answered the call of duty and sacrificed their lives to protect our homeland. They gave us and our future generations the best examples of altruism and sacrifice,” added Al Tayer.

“On this glorious day, we also renew our pledge of loyalty to our wise leadership who spare no efforts for the advancement of the UAE. We promise to continue working so that the UAE flag remains high, and pray that the souls of our martyrs rest in peace and their families are blessed with patience and solace,” concluded Al Tayer.
