Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched DEWA Academy as part of its strategy to shift Dubai’s energy sector to a new stage of growth and progress. This supports the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote Emiratisation and prepare a generation that will keep pace with the government of the future and have a futuristic mindset by developing a world-class educational system. By launching the Academy, DEWA invests in young minds and prepares a generation of young Emiratis that realises the importance of vocational work and the nation’s interest in joining a pioneering technical programme. The Academy aims to localise technical positions in all DEWA departments.
DEWA Academy focuses on developing the capabilities of young Emiratis by providing them with vocational training according to the highest international standards, as well as a distinguished hands-on experience. Students study the UAE Ministry of Education curriculum, similar to what their peers are offered in Grades 10, 11, and 12 at government or private schools, along with the UK-based Pearson BTEC (Business and Technology Educational Council) curriculum in three disciplines: electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and Mechatronic engineering. The vocational qualifications include the Pearson BTEC International qualifications from entry-level to Pearson BTEC level 3.
On completion of the study programme, DEWA Academy graduates receive a grade 12 certificate accredited by the UAE Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai. They also receive a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering from Pearson BTEC (UK), equivalent to Level 4 of the National Qualifications Authority in the UAE. Additionally, graduates receive certification from Pearson BTEC. This is the UK’s largest awarding body regulated by Ofqual (England), SQA Accreditation (Scotland), CCEA Accreditation (Northern Ireland) and Qualifications Wales (Wales). The academic and vocational qualifications are globally recognised and benchmarked with educational excellence in organisations such as Edexcel, BTEC, EDI and LCCI.
After completing their studies, DEWA Academy graduates are employed at DEWA’s different divisions according to their specialisations and DEWA’s needs.
