DEWA Vocational Academy is committed to prepare the next generation of Emiratis in vocational fields by providing them with suitable knowledge and skills that match best international vocational practices.
This is an exclusive Vocational Academy that focuses on developing young UAE nationals by providing them with quality vocational training and hands on work experience. The goal of the Academy is the nationalization of the entry level technical positions in all DEWA departments.
DEWA Academy offers a Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering, and a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Qualifications to prepare students to be industry ready in DEWA’s technical divisions.
The Academy provides an opportunity for young citizens to acquire the advanced technical skills required to enter the work environment. Students learn various skills such as time management, planning, innovation, and team work through the best engineers, facilitators and experts accredited in the fields of Electrical, Mechanical and Operations & Maintenance Engineering.
It is a three-year study programme where students are awarded a monthly stipend. On completion of the programme, the students receive a certificate from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai – UAE, which is equivalent to the Technical Secondary School Certificate in the UAE. Additionally, the students achieve certification from Pearson BTEC (Business and Technology Educational Council) which is the UK’s largest awarding body regulated by Ofqual (England), SQA Accreditation (Scotland), CCEA Accreditation (Northern Ireland) and Qualifications Wales (Wales). The academic and vocational qualifications are globally recognised and benchmarked, with educational excellence rooted in names like Edexcel, BTEC, EDI and LCCI.
The vocational qualifications include Edexcel NVQ and BTEC from entry level to higher national diplomas. BTECs are recognised in more than 70 countries worldwide, and nearly a million learners are registered for BTECs and other vocational qualifications, every year.
A Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Academy certificate qualifies graduates to work as technical staff at DEWA, on completion of the study programme. The curriculum is based on three disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Operations and Maintenance Engineering.
In the first year (grade 10), students study preparatory vocational courses in engineering in addition to the requirements of the Ministry of Education core subjects.
In the second and third year (grades 11 and 12), the programme focuses on extended diploma courses in electrical, mechanical, & operations and maintenance engineering, in addition to the requirements of the Ministry of Education core subjects.
The Academy also trains students in English and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to achieve the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) certification and Microsoft Specialist certification.
