EV Green Charger Initiative

EV Green Charger Initiative to establish the infrastructure and build electric vehicle charging stations:

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Green Charger Initiative was launched to support the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world and to promote green transportation in the city. Through this initiative, the first public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles was developed in the region. In 2015, DEWA developed and installed 100 EV Green Chargers in highly frequented areas across the city, to encourage electric vehicle adoption in Dubai. Since then, the network has expanded to over 350 chargers across Dubai.

Utilisation of these charging stations is available to customers registered for the service and non-registered customers who avail the guest mode feature at the charging station.

EV Green Chargers are smart units which are connected through a Charge Point Management System (CPMS) with status and locations of chargers available via the DEWA website and smart app. Customers may also start and end their charge cycles via a card-less customer experience by following the steps on their mobile device once they scan the QR code available at the charging station. DEWA is also researching and testing emerging technologies in mobility such as ultra-fast charging, mobile charging and inductive charging.
