Ideal Home

Ideal Home is a pioneering public initiative launched by DEWA in cooperation with nine Government entities. The goal of the initiative is to instill and nurture a culture of an ideal home environment among Dubai residents. By fulfilling various requirements placed by all partners. Ideal home recognises and rewards households that achieve the highest levels of environmental sustainability, health and safety, security, smart transformation, and social responsibility.

Ideal Home – Training Course:

Register now on the e-training course, which will enable to you to learn the best practices towards achieving a happy and sustainable home environment.

This free-cost training course will help to improve your knowledge in environmental sustainability, health and safety, security, smart transformation, and social responsibility at your home, by taking a self-assessment test and watching awareness videos to enhance your skills in the previous fields.

Upon completion of all course requirements, passing the final exam successfully, and obtaining an average of 90% or more, you will receive a certificate of completion for the course offered by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

Environmental Sustainability
Electricity and Water Conservation:
  • Use energy-efficient light bulbs.
  • Use environmentally friendly devices and appliances.
  • Set the AC to 24C.
  • Villas use water-saving tools and smart irrigation systems.
  • Use solar-powered appliances.
  • Run washing machines with a full load.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights, and make use of natural light as much as possible.

Environment:
  • Obtain the necessary permission for home front entrance landscapes. The application for permits is submitted through one of the branches of customer service offices of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai or through DEWA’s website.
  • Use environmentally-friendly accessories (recycled, smart, low-power, etc).

Health & Safety
Health:
  • Ensure family members practice sports 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes each.
  • Ensure family knows the importance of sports, and encourages others to practice sports.
  • Ensure to conduct regular health check-ups to all family members.
  • Follow a healthy diet.
  • Do not smoke.

Public safety:
  • Ensure good quality of indoor air at home, by supplying the building with mechanical ventilation or mixed ventilation (mechanical and natural) so that the amount of external air entering the building meets the minimum requirements for ventilation.
  • Safely store disinfectants, detergents, and personal care equipment.
  •  Get rid of expired products.
  • Match the identification card with the approved specifications (brand, trade name, usage instructions, warnings, storage conditions and validity).
  • Use products safely with gloves and masks.

Fire resistance:
  • Place fire extinguisher in a convenient and easily accessible location. The best place to put the extinguisher in most cases is near the door or at the entrance of the house out of the reach of children.
  • Verify the production and expiry date of the fire extinguisher.
  • Place fire blanket in the right place, such as a kitchen, to extinguish flammable liquids fires such as oils, fats, paint, and gasoline. The fire blanket is an easy-to-use fire extinguisher to deal with household fires caused by gas ovens during cooking.
  • Family members should know how to use a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket.
  • Install smoke detectors.
  • Conduct periodic maintenance of electric cables.
  • Conduct regular maintenance of gas installations.
  • Ensure closing gas cylinders before bed or when leaving home.

Social Responsibilities
  • Family participation in activities that support the rights of People of Determination such as celebrations, marathons, open days, and volunteering.
  • Family members know and have the skills to deal with people of determination and elderly people. Family members can register for providing the necessary training for of those caring for the elderly, to develop the competence of caregivers of older people in their homes and qualify them to deal with them with all situations.
  • Participate in volunteer work, through the Dubai Volunteering programme on the website of the Community Development Authority’s website, or the Dubai Volunteer application.

Home Security
Preparation for emergencies:
  • Place first-aid kit in the right place, out of the reach of children.
  • Ensure members of the household know how to use the contents of the first aid box.
  • Ensure the right equipment is in the box, including: latex gloves, adhesive bandages, wound bandages, sterile eye bandages, fire bandages, compression bandages, triangular bandages for fractures, pointed scissors, adhesive tape, and medical waste bags.
  • Check the first aid box periodically and regularly, and fill it after use.
  • Ensure the presence of sufficient quantities of materials in the first aid box.
  • Dispose expired materials.
  • Keep the first aid box clean and protect its contents from dust and moisture.

Compliance with residence laws:
  • Ensure there are no violators on the sponsor's file.
  • Ensure that expired travel documents are renewed.
  • Update travel documents through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs in Dubai’s website or its smart app.

Security:
  • Ensure your home’s windows and doors are tightly sealed, and use suitable strong locks.
  • Replace windows and doors locks if they are old and can be easily broken.
  • Place surveillance cameras at house entrance and exit.
  • Inform police of your travel plan through the Homeland Security programme, which is available on Dubai Police’s website and smart application.
