Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a workshop for 14 local and National organisations to discuss the roles and responsibilities of each of them during emergencies that might face electricity and water services in Dubai and to ensure the readiness of each organisation to fulfil its expected role as per the set plans. The workshop supports DEWA’s efforts to increase readiness level to deal with emergencies. It also fulfils the requirements of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority. The workshop, held in Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek hotel, was attended by representatives from Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Health Authority, Directorate General of Civil Defence, Ministry of Environment and Water, Dubai Ports, the Coast Guards, the Professional Communication Corporation (Nedaa), the Department of Economic Development, Dubai Aluminium (DUBAL), Dubai Supply Authority, and DEWA’s management. “DEWA effectively contributes to the social, economic, and environmental development of Dubai by providing continuous and stable electricity and water supplies according to the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and safety. We work closely with local and national government organisations to streamline and coordinate efforts and ensure readiness to all kinds of emergencies, disasters, or crises, taking into account the strategic importance of electricity and water services. Our strategy is to avoid crises before they happen, and to be prepared to deal with them according to the highest levels of readiness and professionalism if they occur,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. “DEWA has formed a high-level crisis management and planning committee since 2008. It is responsible for preparing and updating a list of possible crises that DEWA might face in all its work areas. It has also developed a clear strategy to deal with crises and emergencies and updates it continuously, according to the highest international standards. This supports our vision to become a sustainable innovative world class utility and achieve the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai the preferred place to live, work, and visit,” added Al Tayer. At the workshop, DEWA reviewed possible scenarios for crises and disasters that can cause full or partial power or water outage in the Dubai. He also highlighted the risks mentioned in the local risk register of Dubai and the supporting organisations that move instantly to deal with different crises.
