Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has participated in the closing ceremony of Cohort 7 of Dubai Future Accelerators, an initiative of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF). During the ceremony, the start-ups that worked with DEWA in cohort 7, showcased their innovative solutions. These are Heliatek from Germany; DeepOpinion from Austria; and EverComm from Singapore. The three companies were selected from 32 start-ups from around the world that applied to work with DEWA to find sustainable, proactive and innovative solutions to the key challenges related to DEWA’s areas of work by employing the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI); Blockchain; Internet of Things (IoT); and Augmented Reality among others.

“Today, Dubai is a key destination for the biggest and most prominent international companies and organisations. Dubai Future Accelerators programme, supervised by Dubai Future Foundation, is a unique opportunity for start-ups to develop innovations that keep pace with rapid developments and deal with current and future challenges. The programme’s results over the past years underline its role as a pioneering platform that brings together start-ups from all around the world to work with government organisations in Dubai to develop innovative solutions to their challenges,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“At DEWA, we are committed to supporting and encouraging start-ups to develop innovative solutions in the energy and water sectors. This supports DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation and its strategy to support innovation as a proactive approach for developing effective solutions that contribute to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and support global efforts to fight climate change and reduce global warming. This is achieved by increasing the share of renewable and clean energy, increasing energy efficiency, and limiting carbon emissions to make positive changes globally,” added Al Tayer.

Heliatek provides thin photovoltaic film that are ready-to-use on roof surfaces and facades on existing buildings to provide them with clean solar power. DeepOpinion analyses text using cutting-edge deep learning and Natural Language Processing algorithms to extract data from text and help speed up decision-making. EverComm combines IoT and machine learning to manage and improve equipment performance and reduce energy consumption to limit carbon emissions.

Since its launch in 2016, DEWA has participated in 7 rounds of the Dubai Future Accelerators programme. It has evaluated over 400 start-ups, developed 20 pilot projects and completed 8 main projects.
