Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in the fourth edition of the World Utilities Congress 2025 as a Supporting Sponsor, where it is highlighting its most prominent projects and achievements in diversifying energy sources and supporting the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to meet 100% of the emirate’s energy needs from clean sources by 2050. DEWA is also emphasising – at the event – its continuous efforts to invest in innovation and the latest Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to maintain its global lead in the electricity and water sectors, and provide sustainable, reliable, efficient and top-notch services in line with the highest international standards.
The event, hosted by the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), is taking place from 27 to 29 May 2025. Some of the projects DEWA is showcasing include:
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world. By 2030, it will have a production capacity of 7,260 megawatts using photovoltaic panels and concentrated solar power. When completed, the solar park will reduce carbon emissions by more than eight million tonnes annually. DEWA has achieved world records for the world’s tallest solar tower and the largest thermal storage capacity.
Green Hydrogen project
DEWA’s Green Hydrogen project is the first project of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy. The project produces green hydrogen, most of which is used to generate clean energy and vehicle fuel.
EV Green Charger
Since its launch in 2014, DEWA’s Green Charger Initiative has contributed to the development of advanced infrastructure, resulting in a network of over 1,100 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This includes stations developed by DEWA as part of its EV Green Charger initiative, and stations developed by independent charge point operators licensed by DEWA.
Research and Development (R&D) Centre
The Research and Development (R&D) Centre’s research areas include solar power, water, smart grid integration and energy efficiency. Through Space-D, the centre develops several niche use-cases for grid and water networks, and enriches the scientific community locally and globally by registering patents and publishing Scopus-indexed scientific and research papers presented at international conferences and journals.
Sustainability and Innovation Centre
The Sustainability and Innovation Centre is a global incubator for innovation in various fields of clean and renewable energy, encouraging business and investment in areas that anticipate and shape a sustainable future. The centre further refines the skills of specialists, stakeholders and youths through professional programmes it launches in collaboration with its strategic partners from local and international academic institutions, and start-ups. The centre includes over 30 interactive exhibits, offering its visitors a unique experience using Metaverse and hologram technologies, drones and the autonomous bus.
