Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully renewed its BS 13500 certification in Effective Governance Management Systems for the 10th consecutive year, following a rigorous audit by the British Standards Institution. The achievement underscores the maturity of DEWA’s integrated governance framework, as well as its unwavering commitment to adopting global best practice in transparency, accountability and corporate oversight.
The certificate was received by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, during a ceremony attended by DEWA officials, including Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, Dr Ali Al Muwaijei, Vice President of Governance, Compliance and Agility, and members of the governance, compliance and agility team.
Al Tayer emphasised that DEWA’s adherence to robust governance standards continues to strengthen investor and stakeholder confidence, enhance long-term business resilience and support its strategic expansion beyond the UAE through ‘DEWA International’, a wholly owned independent subsidiary focused on developing conventional and clean energy projects worldwide and exporting Dubai’s successful energy and water infrastructure model to global markets.
“The renewal of the BS 13500 standard reaffirms DEWA’s standing as a global benchmark for governance excellence and reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices as a foundation for sustainable, innovation-led growth. This achievement crowns DEWA’s sustained institutional journey to embed governance as a core work culture, reflecting the practical impact of the ‘Dubai-it’ initiative and Dubai’s global model for turning visionary ideas into tangible achievements. Maintaining internationally accredited governance systems strengthens DEWA’s organisational resilience and strategic partnerships, and also advances its aspirations to expand its influence and investments across regional and global markets,” said Al Tayer.
Bin Salman said DEWA views sound governance as a strategic enabler that advances the organisation’s vision and strategic objectives, strengthens its competitive edge, deepens partnerships and enhances its readiness to anticipate and shape future opportunities.
“We continue to develop our governance framework to keep pace with emerging opportunities and challenges, while delivering long-term sustainable value for shareholders, investors, customers and society,” said bin Salman.
Dr Al Muwaijei stated: “DEWA continues to deploy artificial intelligence across its operations, reinforcing its leadership in digital transformation within the utilities sector.”
