In line with the objectives of the Year of Giving, and within the framework of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s strategy for community work and cooperation with public and private partners to reinforce the culture of charitable work in UAE society, DEWA, in cooperation with the UAE Deaf Association, provided electronic equipment and devices to 30 families of people with determination to help them in their daily lives.

In line with the Smart Dubai initiative, to make Dubai the smartest and the happiest city in the world, and in accordance with the best international practices in the field of support for people with hearing disabilities, DEWA provided each family with a set of smart devices, based on the latest technologies. The smart devices included alarm devices to help them communicate with others, vibration devices to help them wake up, and other notification and vibration tools to support doorbells, telephones, fire alarms, security equipment, childcare, and others.

"DEWA’s cooperation with the UAE Deaf Association is part of its strategy of empowering people of determination (people with disabilities), and integrating them into the social environment as individuals capable of production and creativity, and strengthening cooperation with partners in the community. This comes in line with the announcement of the Year of Giving in the UAE, under the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the initiatives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to consolidate charity work among members of the community. It also supports the ‘My Community, a City for Everyone’ initiative launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, to transform Dubai into a friendly zone for people with determination. Our community work in DEWA comes from our belief that the role of government organisations is not limited to carrying out its duties in the sectors that are directly concerned with them, but we are all key players in society,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

"DEWA places the community’s happiness at the top of its strategic priorities and a key value within its institutional values, in line with the vision of His Highness that the purpose of government work is to make people happy. DEWA aims to provide all the necessary support to all members of society, and linking Society Happiness programmes with the local, regional, and international initiatives, and events, in order to achieve the objectives of the strategy contained in the fourth generation system of government excellence, and the Dubai Plan 2021. DEWA recorded 89% in the rate of customer happiness for 2016,” added Al Tayer.

From his side, Musabah Saeed Al Niyadi, Deputy Chairman of the UAE Deaf Association, expressed his sincere appreciation for the efforts of the community organisations to support people of determination and provide material and moral support to this important sector of society, through active participation in community events organised by DEWA, and the sale of handicrafts by members of the UAE Deaf Association.
