Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a workshop for its Human Resources staff to train them on the foundations and principles of inclusive employment. This is part of DEWA’s efforts to include and empower people of determination in line with the National Agenda and the National Policy to Empower People of Determination. The workshop, which was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development, used the guidelines issued by the Ministry to build government capacity in attracting, employing, and retaining people of determination. The guidelines include ‘Job Interviews for People of Determination’, ‘Dealing with People of Determination in the Work Environment’, and ‘Guidelines for People of Determination Job Seekers.’ The workshop was attended by employees who are involved in the hiring process in DEWA’s Human Resources division. Members of DEWA’s Advisory Council for People of Determination were also present.

“DEWA is committed to integrating people of determination and achieving their happiness by providing a conducive environment that allows them to unleash their capabilities and potential. This is in line with the National Policy to Empower People of Determination, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families, and the ‘My Community... a City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a city that is friendly for people of determination by 2020. DEWA is committed to achieving the UAE National Agenda for inclusive employment, to enhance the capabilities of people of determination and provide them with professional and operational skills that support their economic and social independence. We have included the rights of people of determination in all our policies and procedures, according to the best international practices and standards. DEWA has also gone a long way in building the capacity of its employees who provide services to staff and customers who are people of determination,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA’s top management attaches great importance to the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination in the work environment. This has been translated into policies and procedures that ensure their integration in the work environment and that they get equal employment opportunities with others. It also supports their financial independence, and contribution to the sustainable development. These efforts have contributed to raising Social Happiness about DEWA’s role as an organisation that supports people of determination to 94.3% in 2017,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, and Chairman of DEWA’s Advisory Council for People of Determination.

DEWA received the People-of-Determination-Friendly Government Entity award in the large government entities category at the 21st Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) Awards 2018.
