DEWA wins gold in innovation category at 10th Global Continual Improvement & Innovation Symposium & Award 2018

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) won gold in the innovation category at the 10th Global Continual Improvement & Innovation Symposium & Award (GCIIS) 2018, for its design and fabrication of Ferrule Replacement Machine for Pressurised Water Pipelines project. DEWA was honoured during the award ceremony that was held recently at Le Méridien Dubai, organised by Dubai Quality Group (DQP).

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed his pleasure with the award, which emphasises DEWA’s excellence in establishing a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence, consolidating government work at the highest levels. This comes in recognition of its advanced and innovative projects that contribute to strengthening DEWA’s position locally, regionally, and globally as well as the performance of its strategic objectives, primarily providing electricity and water services according to the highest degrees of availability, efficiency, and reliability.

“We greatly support innovation in Dubai and the UAE, towards achieving the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 to make the UAE the best country in the world, and in line with the National Innovation Strategy launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make the UAE one of the most innovative nations in the world as well as the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. DEWA has added strategic objectives within its strategy map with a focus on envisioning the future, innovation, and stakeholder happiness, and institutionalised innovation across all its divisions and operations. DEWA’s advanced innovations and projects have contributed to achieving many successes and achievements, ranking it among the most prestigious organisations in the world,” said Al Tayer.

“DEWA succeeded in establishing a culture of innovation across all its departments and divisions, contributing to it receiving more than 190 prestigious local and international awards over the past four years, including the highest award in the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Excellence Model, becoming the first non-European organisation to receive this prominent award and the first in the Award’s history to win it from its primary nomination. The UAE, represented by DEWA, maintained its global first ranking, for the second consecutive year, with scores of 100% in all Getting Electricity indicators in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 report which measures the ease of doing business in 190 economies around the world.

DEWA selected Innovation Champions to be points of contact in each of its divisions to assist in the ideation, evaluation and implementation of ideas. DEWA also introduced the Innovation Toolkit for employees and departments to promote their innovation culture as well as to familiarise them with innovation tools they may utilise internally to instil the culture of innovation and make it a daily practice,” concluded Al Tayer.

GCIIS 2018 witnessed the participation of about 65 local and international organisations with the attendance of more than 150 specialists from various institutions in the UAE, and the participation of international speakers who reviewed the latest technologies in the field of continuous development and quality assurance in addition to institutional excellence in the business sector, locally and globally.
