DEWA recommends rational consumption during summer

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched a new and creative campaign to rationalise electricity consumption in line with its efforts to raise awareness and provide necessary information on reducing electricity consumption in the Emirate of Dubai. This campaign aims to aims to educate individuals on how to protect the environment by providing them with insights and techniques to reduce consumption, which reaches its peak during the summer months. The campaign will target peak load usage between 12-5pm, daily. The campaign, which started in June, targets various residential, commercial, and industrial areas in Dubai and is aimed at raising awareness about using home appliances. The campaign will run until August this year. The time between 12-5pm is known as peak load hours. With air-conditioning taking about 60% of the total consumption of power, unnecessary consumption of electricity during peak load hours could negatively impact the efficiency, cost and quality of electricity produced. The peak load hours adds around 40% more pressure on the overall network. “In line with Dubai’s strategy to find new and sustainable solutions for the production and consumption of energy, and to combat global warming, we are working to launch and organise various campaigns and initiatives to educate the public about the importance of rational consumption to preserve natural resources. The Peak Load campaign is critical for us because it relies on raising awareness in residential, commercial, and industrial areas in Dubai about peak load hours, and the importance of conserving energy to reduce production costs and to improve efficiency and quality, in addition to protecting the environment,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. The new campaign promotes rational use of home appliances such as ovens, irons, dishwashers and washing machines during peak hours, as well as setting air conditioners’ temperature to 24°C in occupied rooms, significantly reducing electricity consumption. DEWA is encouraging its customers to rationalise their consumption by launching several awareness campaigns to introduce the concept of rational consumption.
