DEWA Women’s Committee launches ‘Abayaty’ initiative to promote social and volunteer activities

The Women’s Committee of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched a new social initiative, Abayaty, in collaboration with Human Appeal International (HAI) aimed at serving society, supporting underprivileged families, and enhancing social and volunteer work. Abayaty initiative will work towards providing clothing for 3,000 underprivileged families. As part of the initiative, DEWA Women’s Committee members will collect unneeded abayas and package them for delivery to underprivileged families through HAI, who will be in direct contact with the beneficiaries. The Women’s Committee has dedicated special locations for collecting abayas including, DEWA headquarters, and its offices Warsan, Jebel Ali, and the new sustainable building in Al Quoz. DEWA’s female employees will provide boxes and plastic bags to collect abayas from donors, and will volunteer to expedite the process. “The initiative is in line with DEWA’s strategy and responsibility toward the community to support charitable activities and promote social cohesion. Supporting the underprivileged segment is a national and religious responsibility. We aim to promote social balance in the community and contribute to the wellbeing of underprivileged families,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of Women’s Committee. “Through the Abayaty initiative, we aim to collect unneeded abayas to be donated for underprivileged families during the Holy Month of Ramadan, as it is the month of charity. On behalf of the Women’s Committee, I encourage all DEWA employees to take part in the project to help us achieve our objectives in clothing 3,000 families,” said Fatima Deemas, Vice-Chairperson of DEWA’s Women’s Committee. DEWA’s Women’s Committee has succeeded in underlining the pioneering role of women in the community, highlighting their capabilities in achievements in supporting sustainable development. The committee consistently organises various activities including seminars, workshops, and site visits to further enhance the role of working women and increase their participation in various fields.
