HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) extended his congratulations to HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, their Highnesses the Members of the Supreme Council, Rulers of the Emirates, and the government and people of the UAE on winning the honour to host Expo 2020 in the Emirate of Dubai. “The great official support manifested in the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the persistent follow up from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum are the most important drivers behind this important accomplishment. The country’s achievements reflect the leadership’s vision that produced an integrated strategy aiming to provide a quality lifestyle and happiness to the UAE’s citizens and expatriates and raise up high the great flag of our beloved country,” said Al Tayer. Al Tayer said that Dubai winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020 under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ underlines the visionary and inspiring leadership of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum who brought together the entire city in a remarkable campaign to highlight our strong competencies to the world, to host this prestigious global event which promotes and celebrates a cluster of values including innovation, creativity and cultural diversity. Reflecting the UAE’s political approach, World Expo 2020 also encourages global cooperation to introduce effective solutions for the challenges facing humanity. Al Tayer praised the efforts and endeavours of the Higher Committee for Hosting the World Expo 2020 led by HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Higher Committee, and members of the High Committee, adding that the Higher Committee succeeded in highlighting the strengths of the city of Dubai, and its commitment to creating a sustainable future for encouraging innovation and creativity. “The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked hard to mobilise international support. Moreover, the massive support from the community, ministries, government organisations and private sector had a significant role in boosting Dubai’s chances in this fierce international competition,” said Al Tayer. “Expo 2020 is the world’s largest and most prestigious exhibition, and Dubai is bringing the event, for the very first time, to the MENASA (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) region, which will expand new development horizons for this region with a population exceeding two billion. “Dubai’s historic achievement in winning the bid to host the World Expo 2020, reiterates its leading position as a global city committed to the prosperity of our future generations, particularly as the UAE is the closest to Expo 2020’s values with its colourful cultural diversity that brings together over 200 nationalities living and working in perfect harmony in a safe and nurturing environment without any discrimination,” he added. “DEWA contributed effectively to the UAE’s bid for Expo 2020 by executing various sustainable projects, adopting the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, and implementing DEWA’s strategy and plans. Currently, DEWA’s has enough installed capacity for electricity and water and we are working on enhancing this capacity as per our plans which include expanding transmission and distribution networks. DEWA is definitely able to provide timely electricity and water services to the Expo 2020 at the highest international levels of efficiency and reliability, while meeting the growing demand for power and water in the Emirate. We are committed to collaborating with the various concerned parties to contribute to the success of Expo 2020 and promote the pioneering international position of Dubai.” “Now that the city has won the bid to host the event, we will continue to enhance the energy and water infrastructure of Dubai, with a core focus on sustainability, and rational consumption of natural resources, as well as work to enhance alternate energy solutions.” “In line with our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, we will spare no efforts in achieving the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to make Expo 2020 in Dubai the best one in history,” added Al Tayer. “We are working to achieve the development goals of the Emirate of Dubai, and support its preparations to host Expo 2020, and will develop several strategic plans in the next few days focusing on the theme of Expo 2020 ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ to enhance sustainability, innovation, and creativity of all participating parties in this global event,” concluded Al Tayer. DEWA has organised many events and activities at the national and international levels to support Dubai’s bid to host Expo 2020. These included promoting Dubai’s profile at international conferences, featuring the official Expo 2020 bid logo across all DEWA buildings and all internal and external publications, as well as using social media, and online platforms, such as email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to issue promotional messages.
