Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) | DEWA and Dubai Police perform a successful mock drill

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Police successfully performed a mock drill of a plane falling over power grid in Dubai. This drill, which was initiated by DEWA with the participation from Dubai Police, Civil Defense, Dubai Ambulance, and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) aimed to raise readiness to face and deal with contingencies and crises that might occur. The drill focused on the successful response to contingencies and crises in all aspects. It also included the tracks of integrated management of contingencies and crises, evaluating infrastructures during emergencies, building up response capabilities, preparing media strategy for crises management and strategic planning. “This drill aims to increase readiness of addressing crises, enhance successful and effective co-ordination with Dubai Police. It also aims to train participating authorities in the best preventive precautions and to enhance and improve safety and security. This mock drill is in line with DEWA’s Strategic Plan of crisis management, which aims to enhance readiness to address risks and dangers and assign roles and responsibilities in facing such situations,” said Eng. Hussein Lootah, EVP- Transmission Power, Chairman of Contingencies & Crises Committee at DEWA. “This drill strengthened co-ordination and communications between DEWA and Dubai Police with the purpose of facing contingencies and crises. The supply of Electricity and Water was not interrupted and the two sides performed all the stages of this mock drill successfully and professionally,” said Eng. Hussein Lootah. “We would like to thank Dubai Police, Civil Defense, Dubai Ambulance, and Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and all participants in this drill,” concluded Eng. Lootah. “The drill achieved its set objectives and tested the readiness and response of teams during such contingencies, and it also prepared participants to face such situations. It also focused on training participants in preventive measures and procedures of safety and security, and how to deal with causalities and how to carry and injured people. It also measured and enhanced the readiness of participants and how to deal with similar situations in terms of evacuating buildings, following instructions, taking into consideration the fact that the fourth strategic objective of Dubai Police is to face contingencies and crises effectively,” said Major Saeed Hamdan bin Dalmouk, from General department of Operations in Dubai Police. “Dubai has become a global city. Therefore, we have to intensify our security and safety preparations for any contingency that might occur. Such mock drills promote communications and collaborations among Dubai Police and other authorities. These also help diagnose and identify weaknesses and strengths of participating authorities so as to work on improving any defects that might arise and avoid any potential error, promote training and continuous update and development of performance. These drills also enhance the efficiency of employees by providing and organizing tailored courses for them, providing all capabilities and devices required to enhance collaboration and with all partners to keep pace with continuous development of Dubai as a global city,” added Major Saeed bin Dalmouk.
