Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) welcomed a delegation from Dubai’s Community Development Authority (CDA) accompanied by elderly Emiratis as part of its commitment to strengthen partnerships with different organisations and engage with the community. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, received the delegation led by HE Khaled Al Kamda, Director General of the CDA. The meeting was attended by Abdullah Al Hajri, Executive Vice President of Customer Relations, Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications, Ahmed Abdullah, Deputy Senior Manager for External Communications, and Arif Julfar, Manager of Media & Marketing at DEWA. “Our support comes in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform the UAE and Dubai into a model in promoting humanitarian work and community service. It also reflects the 'My community...a City for Everyone' initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, which aims to give more opportunities to the disabled by 2020. The strategy aims to consolidate social responsibility initiatives and development projects for all segments of society including the disabled and the elderly,” said Al Tayer. “DEWA works with all stakeholders to achieve the strategic direction of Dubai Government in promoting social, economic, environmental, humanitarian, and sustainable development initiatives. The CDA undertakes activities to provide service to different groups in society and support a healthy environment for all including those with special needs. These are aligned with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015,” added Al Tayer. “DEWA is sponsoring a Sanad Card for the disabled in Dubai and the Zakher Card that provides selected services to the elderly by involving more than 35 government, semi-government and private organisations. This is in line with the UAE Vision 2021 that aims to position our country as one of the best in the world. The Sanad Card provides services for individuals with disabilities, including wheelchair and Maraheb service. The Zakher Card provides a better lifestyle for the elderly in Dubai, in recognition of their contributions and their role in community building and development, and is in line with the teachings of Islam, and the customs and traditions of the community,” said Al Tayer. “The CDA and DEWA strive hard to provide a decent life for citizens in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to alleviate the burden of economically underprivileged citizens, especially in providing electricity to their homes,” said Al Tayer. The Elderly Emiratis praised during the visit the initiatives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and his unlimited support to all segments of society, especially the elderly and low-income Emiratis. “DEWA has allocated funds for electricity service, based on CDA’s request for providing assistance for low-income Emiratis. CDA conducts necessary social research and accordingly DEWA provides assistance in electricity connections for the beneficiaries who fulfilled the conditions and criteria,” concluded Al Tayer “It is important to strengthen co-operation among organisations and establishments involved in the provision of services and facilities provided to the elderly. We are working to provide utmost care and facilities for the elderly in Dubai to help them live independently and raise their quality of life in fulfilment of their rights,” said Al Kamda. “We commend the great interest of DEWA in our programmes for the elderly and their collaboration with us to improve the quality of their lives, and we appreciate their continuing efforts to support the programmes of the CDA,” added Al Kamda. During the meeting, Lawyer Hamdan bin Nasser Al Ghaferi and Dr. Ali bin Abood thanked Al Tayer for DEWA’s initiatives. “I am delighted and honoured on behalf of my fellow gentlemen, to extend our thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council. We appreciate the efforts of Their Highnesses for their benevolence. We also thank HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, for extending support to the elderly. We also thank HE Khaled Al Kamda, Director General of CDA, for the support,” concluded Mohammed Hussain on behalf of the delegation. The visiting delegation presented a shield to honour Al Tayer.
