DEWA awarded with Globe of Honour and Sword of Honour in health and safety for five consecutive years

The British Safety Council honoured Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) as the only international organisation to have won the Globe of Honour and Sword of Honour Awards in health and safety, for five consecutive years. DEWA has become the first organisation in the world to win both of these prestigious awards simultaneously. During a recent visit to DEWA by a high-level delegation from the British Safety Council, Lynda Armstrong, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the British Safety Council, awarded HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, with the Shield of Honour and a certificate of excellence in health and safety management, to mark the 60th anniversary of the British Safety Council.

The ceremony was attended by Mike Robinson, CEO of the British Safety Council, Steve Roy, Senior International Business Manager at the British Safety Council, and David Barr, CTO at the British Safety Council. The ceremony was also attended by Dr Bassam Mrayyan, Senior Manager of Environment at DEWA; and Dr. Tawfiq Omeish, Senior Manager for Safety, and Occupational Health at DEWA. Receiving these prestigious international awards reflects DEWA’s position as a leader in the field of health, safety, and environment. DEWA in one of seven international organisations to have won the Globe of Honour for protecting the environment, and one of 50 international organisations to have won the Sword of Honour for health and safety.

DEWA also adopts the best environmental practices to reduce CO2 emissions, and solid and liquid waste, while working to ensure marine protection. This has led to a number of promising investments, reducing environmental violations by adopting environmentally friendly technologies, planning and implementing strategic environmental goals and objectives, monitoring sustainability programmes, and analysing strategies to ensure continuous improvement. Winning these awards also reflect DEWA’s commitment to implementing strategic objectives and protecting the environment to ensure sustainable development,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

“Being awarded with these two prestigious awards by the British Safety Council, is a global recognition of our approach, strategies, and policies in public safety and protecting the environment.
