Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

On the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, we would like to extend our gratitude to the UAE’s wise leadership: HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Our leaders have always placed our people’s happiness at the forefront of their strategic priorities, and have made the best possible use of all available resources and capabilities to achieve this noble objective through qualitative plans, strategies and initiatives. These have enabled the UAE to achieve in a record time, what others could not do in decades.

In the Year of Zayed, we remember the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was keen on the happiness of his people. He dedicated his thought and potential to serve his people and achieve their happiness. He placed the community at the centre of his thoughts and stressed the importance of investing in human resources to build nations. We have learnt from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that people's happiness and welfare is a matter which cannot be delayed, and that happiness and positivity in the UAE are a lifestyle, a government commitment and a spirit uniting the UAE community. The UAE was ranked the happiest Arab country, and the 21st happiest in the world in the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s World Happiness Report 2017 rankings. The UAE was also ranked 12th globally in the happiness of its citizens. The report, issued by the Earth Institute at Columbia University to celebrate the International Day of Happiness, finds the UAE is a happier country than Austria, the United States and the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Ireland and Austria.

DEWA follows the words of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that all government policies, programmes, and services contribute to building a positive and happy community, and that the government’s job is to create the proper environment ensuring the happiness of employees, individuals and families. Achieving stakeholders’ happiness is the main pillar according to which we have developed our strategic plans. We have realised the importance of instilling a culture of optimism, generosity and positive energy among our stakeholders. This consolidates the elements of happiness among individuals, taking the UAE to new levels of prosperity and global leadership. This is aligned with the UAE Centennial 2071, which is a long-term government plan to prepare the UAE and young Emiratis for the future, as well as the UAE Vision 2021 to make the UAE among the best countries in the world, and the Dubai Plan 2021, aiming to create a city of happy, creative and empowered people.

On this momentous day of the International Day of Happiness, we emphasise our commitment to support the leadership’s efforts to achieve our people’s happiness and prosperity, and to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. Towards that goal, DEWA has adopted an integrated system that focuses on happiness and giving. As a result of these policies, DEWA excelled on most indices, including DEWA’s employee happiness which reached 83.22% in 2017, and the Customer Happiness Index reached 97% in 2017, to be among the highest in the world.
