"I extend my thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Rule of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for honouring the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the UAE Pioneers. This is as an achievement that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan would have been proud of. We are proud that this sustainable landmark has been selected. This is because it has been named after an exceptional person who has pioneered the sustainable development of Dubai, which has become a role model regionally and globally. Naming the solar park as one of the UAE Pioneers drives us to continue our efforts to achieve the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which guides us in all our projects and initiatives and achieve the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which he launched. This strategy aims to produce 75% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy and make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

"I commend the efforts of the partners and work teams at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and everyone who nominated the solar park and voted for it in the UAE Pioneers initiative. The solar park joins other distinguished pioneering projects that we are proud of all across the UAE, that contribute to achieving the vision of our wise leadership to become number one in all areas, to continue the journey towards excellence and success that was consolidated by the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed, may his soul rest in peace," added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the largest single-site solar park in the world. It will produce 5,000 megawatts by 2030, and will contribute to increasing the share of clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix to 75% by 2050, with investments of AED 50 billion. When completed, it will reduce carbon emission by 6.5 million tonnes annually. The solar park’s phases use photovoltaic panels and d Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technologies to provide clean energy to Dubai’s citizens and residents. It also houses an innovation centre, a research and development centre, testing centres as well as a solar powered desalination plant.
