DEWA welcomes Ernst & Young

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed a high-level delegation from Ernst & Young, the global leader in financial auditing and advisory services, at DEWA’s headquarters. The delegation included Benoit Laclau, Global Sector Leader, Power & Utilities; and Mobin Khan, Managing Partner - MENA Energy. The visit is part of DEWA’s building closer ties and showing its achievements, initiatives, and projects that improve the performance, productivity, and quality of its services to customers.

Al Tayer welcomed the delegation and noted the importance of fruitful cooperation on energy and water projects, to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 75% of Dubai's power from clean energy by 2050. DEWA is actively working towards this by launching several green programmes and initiatives, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030.

Al Tayer said that the UAE, represented by DEWA, maintained its first place for the second year running for getting electricity, scoring 100% on all criteria, as per the World Bank’s Doing Business report 2019 that measures the ease of doing business in 190 economies around the world. This achievement is another milestone in DEWA’s distinguished journey towards excellence, surpassing European and American utilities as it was able to reduce losses from electricity transmission and distribution networks to 3.3% compared to 6-7% in the US and Europe. Water network losses reduced to 7.1% in 2017, compared to 15% in North America, which is one of the best results in the world. DEWA also achieved the lowest customer minutes lost (CML) per year in the world of 2.68 CML compared to 15 minutes in top-ranking electricity companies in the European Union.

The Ernst & Young delegation congratulated Al Tayer on DEWA’s leading and innovative projects, praising DEWA’s competitive results and how it has enhanced its position as a global role model in efficiency and reliability.
