The Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination. This is part of the two entities’ shared vision to strengthen inclusive employment and promote participation in community initiatives, ensuring the best services for people of determination with different disabilities.
The MoU was signed by HE Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of MOCD, and HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. Officials from both organisations were present. The MoU aims to enhance the strategic partnership between the two organisations in the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination in society. This is achieved by organising joint programmes, cooperation in sustainable community projects, and providing the best advice and policies to DEWA staff and their families who are people of determination.
HE Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid said that the MoU between MOCD and DEWA reflects the directives of the wise leadership in the UAE towards promoting government and development. This supports and empowers all segments of society, especially people of determination through cooperation and strategic partnerships between federal and local entities to serve the vision of a cohesive and cooperative society. This is in line with the federal government strategy 2021 to achieve decent living and human well-being; and ensure the provision of social services in an innovative, sustainable and high-quality manner, establishing the future of social development, in line with the UAE Centennial 2071 targets.
Her Excellency said that the MoU with DEWA will contribute to enhancing career happiness in the work environment as well as the quality of life for people of determination, and adds to DEWA’s many achievements in terms of effective inclusive employment and their empowerment at the workplace and society as a whole.
Her Excellency added, “The Ministry of Community Development is always ready to provide the best solutions and facilities for various entities that support people of determination, their inclusion, empowerment and productivity. In this context, this MoU between MOCD and DEWA reflects coordination and cooperation between the two sides in support of welfare efforts aimed for Emirati society at various levels, especially in the field of including and empowering people of determination.”
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said that signing the MoU with MOCD supports DEWA’s strategy to include and empower people of determination, which has four pillars: employees, customers, society, and partners. It is a new strategic achievement for DEWA in the inclusion and empowerment of people of determination.
“As a socially responsible government organisation, DEWA contributes to achieving the vision of the wise leadership in including and empowering people of determination. This aligns with the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to create an inclusive society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination and their families. It also supports the ‘My Community... A City for Everyone’ initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination,” said Al Tayer.
HE Saeed Al Tayer confirmed that DEWA is committed to including people of determination at work and in society by providing an inclusive and flexible work environment for DEWA employees of determination to unleash their capabilities and prove their potential. DEWA also launches many inclusive community initiatives and accessible smart solutions that enhance the inclusion of people of determination in society and provides easy access for POD customers to DEWA’s smart services same to others.
According to the articles of the MoU, MOCD will provide DEWA with inclusive employment services and all the technical support to recruit people of determination. This includes providing CVs when requested, train DEWA HR staff on the inclusive employment toolkit, train employees of determination to increase their productivity and inclusion in the work environment, link the recruitment page of people of determination on DEWA’s website with the Ministry’s online recruitment platform, as well as facilitate further POD acquisition and recruitment.
In the field of community initiatives, MOCD will prepare an annual list of all yearly initiatives and activities related to people of determination that would serve the strategic agenda and the government vision for them, to facilitate DEWA’s participation in implementing these initiatives.
The Ministry will support DEWA in identifying the actual needs of people of determination by sharing local policies and laws related to people of determination, as well as updates on the key strategic pillars of the National Policy for empowering People of Determination, information and survey results, local and international best practices, latest specialised studies, practical guidelines as well as the service-provision standards to enhance the quality of services offered by DEWA to people of determination.
DEWA will send an annual report to MOCD, containing achievements of its employees of determination, job happiness surveys for work environments dedicated for these employees, as well as key initiatives and projects that enhance their quality of life at work.
The two parties will also exchange information on the latest technologies, assistive devices and tools that enhance the inclusion of people of determination into the work environment and society. They will also share information on local and international conferences and awards that promote DEWA’s participation, in addition to an e-connection between the two sides regarding their services.
In terms of capacity building, the MoU enhances the cooperation of both parties in building the skills and capabilities of staff members on both sides, in any technical field that will improve the quality of services provided for people of determination to enhance their inclusion at work and within society.
