DEWA organises knowledge sessions and webinars during Reading Month 2023 with the theme ‘DEWA reads sustainably’

To mark the Reading Month in the UAE, which falls in March of each year, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organises several knowledge sessions and webinars for its employees throughout the month under the theme ‘DEWA reads sustainably.’ This aims to encourage employees to read and strengthen their connection with books.

The in-person, virtual sessions and webinars cover various topics, focusing on sustainability, coinciding with the ‘Year of Sustainability’ in the UAE, with the participation of international writers and authors. During the month, several DEWA employees highlight books they have read and provide summaries to their colleagues as part of the ‘Share an Hour’ initiative.

“The wise leadership attaches great importance to building a knowledge-based economy in the UAE through pioneering initiatives that promote the values of knowledge and sciences, contribute to building a knowledge society, and encourage reading by making books available to raise a cultured generation of readers capable of driving the sustainable development and establishing the UAE as a capital of content, culture and knowledge. At DEWA, we are keen to support the continuous learning of employees through pioneering and innovative knowledge initiatives throughout the year, especially during the Reading Month,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA’s role is not limited to providing electricity and water services according to the highest levels of excellence, reliability and efficiency. We cooperate with many government and private sector organisations to establish a knowledge-based environment. This supports our objectives of raising a generation with a passion for culture, reading, and knowledge, across society. DEWA’s Knowledge Centres contain thousands of traditional and digital books and resources in different areas. We believe that reading opens the mind and is a habit shared by successful people worldwide,” added Al Tayer.

In addition to the webinars and sessions, DEWA organises the ‘15x30 Reading Challenge’ to encourage employees to read for 15 minutes at least every day for 30 days in March or attend 30 training sessions from the courses provided by DEWA. At the end of the challenge, four winners will be selected and awarded based on the number of books they have read and the training courses they have completed.
