HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received HE Lorenzo Fanara, Italy’s Ambassador to the UAE, who led a high-level delegation that included HE Edoardo Napoli, Consul General of the Italian Republic in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Francesco Ionas Badde, Head of the Economic and Commercial Office. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral co-operation in areas of mutual interest, particularly in the fields of sustainability, clean energy and innovation.
During the visit, Al Tayer and Ambassador Fanara discussed various initiatives that align with both the UAE’s sustainability goals and Italy's innovations in renewable energy technologies. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s efforts, initiatives and strategic projects aimed at achieving the vision of the wise leadership in advancing sustainability and green economy.
Al Tayer emphasised that the UAE is one of the leading countries in climate action and has major projects to increase its share of clean and renewable energy sources, as well as enhance energy efficiency to reduce emissions and protect the environment and natural resources.
He highlighted that Dubai has a clear vision for the energy sector to achieve the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. One of our key projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world, with a planned total capacity of 5,000MW by 2030, based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The solar park’s production capacity has reached 2,860MW. When completed, the solar park will reduce more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Al Tayer affirmed that DEWA is keen to collaborate and welcome Italian companies and international partners, to exchange expertise and promote innovation in sustainability and clean energy. DEWA’s achievements are a testament to Dubai’s commitment to becoming a global leader in sustainability, smart cities and clean energy technologies.
Ambassador Fanara expressed Italy’s interest in deepening its co-operation with DEWA in areas such as renewable energy, water sustainability and technological innovation. He praised DEWA’s significant contributions to promoting sustainability in the region and recognised the potential for Italian companies to collaborate with DEWA on innovative green technologies.
The Italian pavilion at the 26th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which is organised by DEWA, will host 50 companies specialising in renewable energy systems, environmental health and food sanitation, integrated waste treatment, environmental rehabilitation plants, water treatment, dewatering equipment, chemical dosing, seawater desalination plants, alternative fuels, metering pumps, laboratory testing and plants for civil use and agriculture.
