'Conservation for a Better Tomorrow' Initiative Reduced Water Consumption by 42% The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in conjunction with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), awarded students, parents, schools and universities in Dubai for, leading by example, reducing water and electricity consumption as part of its Conservation Award for a Better Tomorrow. Cash prizes were awarded to over 15 institutions for reducing usage of water and electricity. Similarly, students from the various education levels, ranging from kindergarten to preliminary, intermediate, secondary, colleges and universities, were awarded cash prizes for reducing the electricity and water consumed at their homes. Present at the awards ceremony, which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City, were Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General at Knowledge and Human Development Authority, Fatma Al Marri, a member of the Federal National Council and CEO, Schools Agency. Al Tayer was joined by Al Karam in distributing the awards to the first place schools in each of the following categories: Universities: Zayed University which decreased its electricity consumption by 27%. High Schools: Al Ma'aref Secondary School which decreased its water consumption by 76%. Intermediate Schools: Nad Al Hamar which decreased its water consumption by 26%. Preliminary Schools: Al Khoulafa' Al Rashedeen which decreased its water consumption by 40%. Kindergartens: Al Manhal Kindergarten which decreased its water consumption by 57%.
