An educational campaign on the dangers of electrical fires and how to be 'Better Safe Than Sorry' this summer As regional temperatures rise, the number of fires reported across the UAE is likely to increase. Many of these incidents can be attributed to ignorance surrounding electrical safety and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Duval Messien and Eros Group have set out to warn homeowners of the possible consequences through new 'Safe Home' campaign. The campaign is based on the human mindset that is conditioned to think that nothing bad will ever happen to them may be to others. And with these thoughts people tend to ignore simple symptoms of fire. In fact survey conducted by Duval indicated that 70% of residents witness burnt plug, experience MCB tripping and ignore it due to lack of knowledge or realization of latent disaster waiting to happen. H.E. Saeed Al Tayer MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in his address at the launch of the Safe Home Campaign said that Health and safety is a major part of our DEWA strategy and it plays an active part in all our policies. The campaign aims to educate all and prevent fire incidents. In order to improve the awareness of the residents, DEWA in cooperation with Duval Messien and Eros Group is trying to further educate and guide the residents about 'Safety at Home'. Simultaneously DEWA is always at the forefront providing eco-friendly electrical products to the consumers. Most accidents are predictable and preventable; this season in our Safe Home Campaign we will educate our consumers and keep them abreast with the dangers that could be avoided by following simple safety measure. Home is a special place; it's a place to explore, to have adventures. Unfortunately, the home is also the most common place for young children to be injured. Trying to make the home environment as safe as possible before any predicament occurs is our aim. We would like to invite all the consumers to participate in this campaign and make our place a safe place to dwell in. Community service is our duty and to keep our customers safe at their homes, offices and factories by guiding them on simple safety measures that could be followed in order to avoid any dangerous incidents is our intention this season, added H.E. Saeed Al Tayer. The Safe Home campaign by DEWA in association with Duval Messien, a world leader in electrical protection and specialist in earthing systems is designed with the health and safety of the household in mind. Many summer fires are caused by electrical sparkage, faulty connections and the overloading of plug sockets. Whilst the warning signs can be clear, Duval Messien and Eros Group in association with DEWA will be educating the public on what to look out to avoid any unnecessary repair costs or injury. At the time of the launch, Mr. Richard Wottrich, Marketing Director Middle East, Duval Messien said We are proud to be partner with DEWA and thank them for helping us meet our endeavor to educate UAE residents that small mistakes can lead to big losses and it is important to be safe than sorry! He added, This campaign is unique in its 360 degree approach. Information received throughout the campaign will indicate the level of help necessary to inform the public and keep society up to date on any issues that they feel lacking of information and guidance. Feedback and insight taken from the home safety research will be shared with DEWA to enable a fully integrated plan of safety in the home. Eros Group, the sole distributor of world-renowned brands Samsung, Hitachi and Taurus and one of the leading players in consumer electronics, telecom and allied multi-products in the Middle East has added yet another dimension to the campaign by creating 'Safe Home Zone', at select Eros Digital Home stores. This zone will display Kiosk equipped with informational literature and response form and all the people walking into the store will be given the info kit. The response forms can be dropped into the slot provided in the kiosks itself. Eros Group on regular intervals will handover the forms to Duval Messien for evaluation and analysis. Select DEWA Customer care center will also display the above. Mr. Yousuf Badri, Chairman and Managing Director, Badri Group of Companies said, As a leading regional provider of electrical appliances and equipment, we have a responsibility in aftercare to our customers. We have discovered that a large percentage of electrical fires in this region can be seen as a cause of misinformation or the public simply not knowing the danger signals to look out for. The campaign aims to educate all and hopefully prevent fire incidents this season. Fire can be devastating and it is hoped that by following a few simple steps via our 'safe Home' displays, people can sleep safely knowing they have taken every precaution
