DEWA Launches Series of Activities to Celebrate Earth Day

As part of its strategic values to preserve the Environment In accordance with the worldwide celebration of Earth Day on Thursday, 22nd of April, 2010, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, in its 7th participation, organized a myriad of activities to increase awareness levels among community members and organizations of the dangers of pollution and environmental problems. Also the activities aim at urging individuals and institutions to adopt new positive attitudes toward the environment in order to preserve the environment – for our future generations. The range of activities organized by the Authority included an “ECO-AWARENESS MORNING” at the Raffles School, showcasing components to propagate environmental concerns and safeguard them from faster depletion of the precious natural resources. A workshop was also held to educate the young audience on efficient means of Environment Protection, Conservation and Usage of Water in addition to useful tips for consumption. In addition to this, the Authority screened “The Age of Stupid,” a drama-documentary-animation movie for the employees of Dubai Government. This movie provided a deep insight and futuristic look of the world after devastation due to climate changes. To enhance the documentary’s impact on the viewers, booklets and rational consumption guidelines including valuable tips on how to consume water and electricity efficiently were freely distributed. H.E. Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO - DEWA said, “The keenness of the Authority to take part in the world’s celebrations of Earth Day stems from the axis of its strategic plan for the safeguarding and preservation of the environment, and the provision for various preventive measures through various forms and methods. Thus the sole aim is to protect the environment and consider environmental well-being as a critical component in DEWA’s business model.” H.E. Thus the sole aim is to protect the environment and consider environmental well-being as a critical component in DEWA’s business model.” In this context, Amal Koshak, Senior Manager of Demand and Tariff Management Department, DEWA - said that “The core objective of these activities is to instil the culture of conservation among community members and bring up a newly-charged educated generation who knows how to deal properly with natural resources and make use of them to the fullest, with little wastage . Concurrently DEWA organized a march in “City Center Mirdiff” joined by DEWA’s utility mascots “Splashy and Sparky.” The march aims at boosting awareness among the Mall visitors of the importance of preserving water and electricity. Also there was an information stand specially erected for the purpose of propagating conservation messages and encourage visitors to reduce the electricity and water consumptions to decrease the carbon emissions in order to provide a healthy living environment.
