Dubai Electricity and Water Authority organizes heritage celebrations for the UAE's 39th National Day

Dubai, UAE –1st December, 2010: As part of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s celebrations of the UAE 39th National Day, which marks the emergence of Emirati Unification, under the slogan of “Kullunna Khalifa”, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, in the presence of EVP of Customer Service and senior employees of the Authority, inaugurated the exhibition organized for three days on the occasion of the 39th National Day. The exhibition comprised Arabian Diyafa (hospitality), the products of Producing Families in collaboration with Social Development Centre, products of orphans in collaboration with Social Empowerment Institution, bride’s requirements, heritage crafts, and a falconry display. Furthermore, the exhibition included heritage discussion sessions, and competitions arranged by Department of Tenders and Engineering, Information and Licensing Department, as well as setting up a heritage library. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA stated: “This memorable occasion deepens the values of national belonging and instills the meaning of nationalism in young people. In this context, these cultural and heritage activities express and identify our cultural and civilized identity, as well as bolstering our national march led by His highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. HE Al Tayer pointed out, after touring the different sections of the exhibition, that this occasion has a significant national dimension and abounds with pride and dignity in the accomplishments made by the great federal march. It is worth mentioning that the exhibition was attended by Fatima Al Mughni, Director of Khorfakan Social Development Centre, Moza Al Amri, Vice Director of Dubai Social Development Centre, poet Seif Al Mansouri, and the Director of Diving Village, joma Bin Thaleth. As part of the UAE celebrations of the 39th National Day, the Women’s Committee at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has organized events and activities at its headquarters for all members of its staff. This is one of a series of initiatives implemented by the Women’s Committee, which is working tirelessly to support and empower DEWA’s female employees in society, building-up their capabilities and deepening their sense of national identity. This celebration comprised a range of activities to bolster the bonds of social and cultural closeness within DEWA’s multicultural work environment. Furthermore, the Committee endeavors to create a common platform of activities with the purpose of reinforcing women’s social and practical roles. Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee said, “This celebration commemorates a very dear event to our hearts – The UAE’s 39th National Day – which marks the emergence of Emirati Unification. Also, this celebration supports the objectives and strategy of the Committee to sharpen the national identity of DEWA’s female employees; motivating and stirring them to serve their country creatively and innovatively and empower them to develop their roles in society by demonstrating their talents in different fields and walks of life.” Fatima Deemas, Vice Chairman of the Committee and Senior Manager of Employees’ Relations said, “We have been keen on organizing such events for everyone at DEWA on this special day when we celebrate our national identity. This celebration includes a competition for the best photograph that identifies both Emirati heritage and National Day itself. Also there was a showcase of national heritage songs and both folklore and military bands.” “The program included a surprise event – a fashion parade of Emirati heritage clothes designed by UAE National designers, include some who are DEWA employees. This fashion parade was restricted only to female employees. In addition, there was a competition for cooking national dishes under the supervision of Kholoud Atteq, the first Emirati chef.” Deemas concluded: The Committee is greatly interested in empowering DEWA’s female employees and enhancing their interaction with individuals of the Emirati society, especially those who own projects related to Emirati heritage and the like. As a result, we have provided our female employees with small shops (stalls) including R W for Biscuits, Brown Showkr for Cup Cake, Baboshka Boutique for accessories and women garments, Hamama Fashion for Gallabya, women Stores for Abaya and Sheila, in addition to some other well-known stores like Haneen House for Abaya and Sheila, Al Mazri House for Abaya and Sheila, Awad Al Qubaissi for perfumes, and Methaa Al Abbar for Abaya and Sheila,
