DEWA organizes and sponsors the 3rd Best Practices Forum on Quality, Health, safety & Environment

In the presence of 220 experts and specialists Today, the 3rd Best Practices Forum on Quality, Health, safety & Environment being held and sponsored by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was inaugurated at Al Bustan Rotana Hotel and will last for two days. This third session of the Forum is characterized by the participation of experts from the GCC countries who will give lectures on the best practices and experiments. This year 15 participants will speak in the Forum; each of them will submit a research paper. Also this year’s Forum will see the attendance of 220 experts and specialists. This forum is part of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s strategy to apply the best and highest criteria of quality, health, safety and environment. DEWA has provided its employees with a health workplace. As a result, DEWA has won so many world prestigious awards including the 5 Star Certificate as well as the Sword of Honor Award from the British safety Council for many successive years. Moreover, the Authority won Dubai Excellence Programme Award – Gold Category in 2008 in recognition of its relentless efforts in promoting health and safety in workplaces. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA stated: “It has been an overwhelming ride and equally supportive response since 2007; wherein an initiative began with elite group of professionals sharing knowledge on “Electric Shock Protection”, we moved to Health & Safety, and today the umbrella has broadened with inclusion of Environment & Quality. “The commitment does not end linearly to this Forum, it is multi-faceted and the bug has been positively induced within the mindset of our esteemed employees and coveted senior management thru corporate HSE Week and Public HSE Weeks over the last few years. Not to forget, I should mention here that DEWA’s credibility is further proved with the achievement of “Social Responsibility 8000” certification in the year 2009, and further to add, the HSE Aspect was far beyond commendable attributes,” HE Al Tayer further added. HE Al Tayer also added: “We focused on different organizations within the UAE in 2008, we reached to various utilities in 2009, and in 2011, with proud I present and welcome the international utilities from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and last but not least our hand-in-hand partners, the elite panel of British Safety Council, UK.” HE Al Tayer also stated: “DEWA successfully achieved a 5 star rating with a score of 97.8 %, a pinnacle of highest attainment within the GCC countries, over past five years. To add to the above, OSHAS 18001:2007; ISO 14001:2004; ISO 9001, they all further compliment our achievements.” On his part Dr Youssef Al Akraf, EVP of Corporate Support “In implementing the integrated administrative systems, DEWA has complied with providing all the requirement of implementation through disseminating awareness of QHSE as well as closely monitoring the process of implementation. This enabled DEWA to attain the highest levels and to win several awards in recognition of its efforts, DR Al Akraf added. Dr. Al Akraf, further added that Dubai Electricity and water Authority adheres strictly to the different matters related to QHSE and works on improving them through promoting total quality, health, safety and environment making the best use of the best practices in these fields.
