DEWA implements SAP – Wave II for Enterprise Resource Planning

Aiming to measure, integrate and automate all its operations In line with its vision to become “A Recognized World-Class Utility”, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA) is currently implementing the international programme SAP – Wave II for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). This programme aims to measure, integrate and automate all DEWA’s operations so as to deliver top-quality services for its customers, employees and partners. DEWA aims to deliver top quality services to its customers and apply the best practices to support the strategy of the UAE, which intends to foster the adoption of electronic services, encourage the use of e-portal, and reduce the number of government visitors in a way that leads to achieving the balanced and sustainable development. On this occasion, His Excellency Saeed Mohamed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA stated: “DEWA is committed towards intrusting the vision of our esteemed leader H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai in being an important and primary provider of excellent services to all citizens of Dubai. In this regard, we are now in the process of taking various initiatives to create and evolve an environment which will foster us to achieving our vision. One of our key initiatives is the SAP Implementation project.” “With this project at DEWA, we would aim to create an enduring model for utility services, not just in the region but to match the global best. The aim is that our processes should be world class yet simple to operate and use. They should aid us in effective performance as well as fast decision making. To maintain a focus and dedicated effort in each of the business area where SAP is being implemented, the program is driven in four projects. These are “DARAHIM- Finance & Accounts”, “BARQ- Consumer Self Services”, “MAWAD- Procurement” and “KAWADER- Human Resource functions” , His Excellency further added. “The SAP Wave II implementation project is part of the vision aiming to attract the best technologies and solutions, and introduce them to the different electronic operations to be integrated with the objectives of Dubai strategic plan,” His Excellency pointed out. His Excellency concluded: “SAP Wave II was initiated in March 2010 and is currently at the end of the Realization phase and is expected to go live by end of this year.” Since its inception, a dedicated team comprising of key international expert houses and members of DEWA IT projects team, and more than 140 core business representatives of DEWA are working on the programme as it is one of the most important service utilities in the Emirate of Dubai. They have been continuously supported by Project Steering Committee and the Program Steering Committee which comprises of the Senior Management. These committees provided regular direction and support to the initiative. Once implemented, the system will not just standardize, integrate & automate, but will also enable DEWA to provide better services to its customer, employees and business partners by enabling end-to-end integration of business processes, providing Standardization, Flexibility and Adaptability, providing Integrated Reporting Flexibility, ensuring Better Operational control, ensuring Better Decision support for managers and executives, ensuring Accuracy, Completeness and Consistency in processes, Improving Efficiency and Customer Satisfaction.
