The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) and Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (ETISALAT), announced today that they are jointly working towards establishing a strategic relationship for the purpose of offering “DEWA” payment services. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to introduce and launch innovative payment solutions for both DEWA and Etisalat consumers’ benefit. The announcement was made at GITEX 2011. On this occasion, H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA stated:”DEWA’s top priority is to integrate the latest technology solutions into its infrastructure. This strategy is in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum -UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which aims to consolidate Dubai’s pioneering and leading position in the region and to promote its role as a technological hub”. DEWA is proud to work closely with Etisalat to ensure that it remains at forefront of the technological developments in order to deliver customer satisfaction and to promote Dubai's vision in delivering world-class level of electricity and water services. This new accomplishment is an inherent part of our strategic plan to increase the competency, productivity and professional development of DEWA e-services and to foster the technological development of telecommunication networks and also the framework of promoting the application of e-services and encouraging the use of e-portal, while introducing top quality innovative services in the field of customer service”. Acting CEO for Etisalat, Nasser Bin Obood, said: “With this partnership, Etisalat will be able to provide a wide variety of payment solutions for DEWA in order to leverage the latest technologies and enable freedom of payment choice for its consumers.” “Etisalat provides a variety of payment channels including IVR, Kiosk and mobile, as well as the most-recently introduced payment through IPTV, which is currently being demonstrated during GITEX.” “Our strategic partnership with DEWA today further emphasizes our commitment to providing innovative payment solutions for governmental departments in the UAE,” Bin Obood concluded. The Memorandum of Understanding stipulates that both parties will jointly promote the usage of alternative payment channels such as Kiosks IVR IPTV, NFC, and will also create a strategic partnership to allow pilot testing for various new payment initiatives by both parties.
