Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has held a ceremony at its headquarters to honor 17 brilliant students participating in the Intelaq UAE University Programme. Exceptional students from colleges and universities, who specialized in engineering, finance and law studies, were recognized and awarded. These talented students will get job offers to be part of DEWA after finishing their graduation requirements. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, accompanied by Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President-Business Support Division, honored brilliant students from DEWA Scholarship Programme, in the presence of a number of DEWA’s top officials, employees and students’ parents. “These initiatives are in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support and develop national talent. Also, these initiatives are part of DEWA’s strategy to promote Emiratization and provide a national cadre of specialized jobs at government departments. This will have a positive impact on enhancing performance and excellence,” said His Excellency during the ceremony. “We, at DEWA, are proud to honor these Emirati brilliant scholarship students, who have attained excellence, as they are the hope of the future. We congratulate them on their great academic success,” added His Excellency. “DEWA is developing and updating its educational studies and training plans to be in line with its strategic plan to provide them with the most suitable workplace and secure themselves a prosperous future career,” His Excellency concluded. “DEWA offers Scholarship Programme, which represents an important contribution to acquiring creative talents and encouraging them to make more efforts. This is part of an integrated strategy to consolidate Emiratization, including scholarships, sending students abroad on missions and acquiring national talents. DEWA provides scholarships, huge rewards and job opportunities for national talents. Intelaq provides three programmes for students; Bachelor of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Programme, Diploma of Electrical Engineering Programme, and the Intelaq Programme. Every year, DEWA acquires 100 applicants for these programmes. At the end of 2011, there were 201 students on scholarships in different universities and colleges. We try hard to acquire national talent and provide them with job and training opportunities in different fields, especially engineering, technical and professional ones,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, EVP—BS. “National students, who are graduates of secondary school science sections, enroll through three programmes. The first programme is the electrical and mechanical engineering programme dedicated for students, who get 80% and above, to study at Emirates University. Those students are granted a good monthly reward during study, and as soon as they are graduated, they get jobs at DEWA suitable to their qualifications. The second programme is assigned for students, who get 60% at least. Those students join the Diploma of Electrical Engineering Programme at Higher College of Technology. Regarding the third programme, it is designed for secondary school students, who get 80% at least and university and college students in both pre-final and final years specialized in mechanical and electrical engineering with GPA 2.5 at least. Those students are granted a good monthly reward and DEWA pays their study fees and they get jobs at DEWA matching their qualifications,” Dr. Al Akraf added.
