DEWA launches AED 265 million main Substation project at Al Lusaily

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues its development projects to raise and upgrade power capacity of its infrastructure; to keep pace with the growth of demand for its services and meet its aspirations to optimize these services to achieve efficiency and reliability. As part of its continuous efforts, DEWA is maintaining its development of its 132kV power transmission grid. It launched a 132/33kV main substation with a transformation capacity of 150 Megavolt Amperes (MVA) at Al Lusaily during January 2012. The project cost AED 170 million and includes laying 132kV ground cables costing AED 95 million to secure an ever-increasing demand for electricity for a variety of requirements. “DEWA’s projects are part of its strategy to enhance the efficiency of its power grid: to meet growing demand for DEWA’s services and implement vital projects, especially in the field of infrastructure. These efforts support the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which aim to consolidate Dubai’s leading position in the region and enhance its role as a global hub for business, finance and tourism,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA “This AED 265 million project aims to develop the capacity of DEWA’s power transmission grids to Al Lusaily, Murgham, Murqab, Al Faqaa, Al Minhad, and Dubai International Endurance City. Ground cables of 132kV spanning 28km now connect Al Lusaily substation to the 132/11kV main substation at Tejara Town in DubaiLand; to enhance efficiency, reliability and ensure uninterrupted supply to all customers at all times,” added His Excellency. “These substations adopt the most cutting-edge digital technologies available to substations, to enhance their efficiency and reliability and serve Dubai’s ambitious urban and economic plans. There are also 33 132kV substations under construction. Moreover, DEWA is developing its grid by developing existing substations, increasing their capacity and adopting world-class state-of-the-art technologies,” concluded His Excellency.
