In line with the strategy of the Government of Dubai to promote sustainable development in support of Dubai’s global position as a hub for finance, business and tourism, and in pursuit of global leadership to achieve excellence in performance by implementing world excellence and innovation model to continue its development initiatives and strengthen the culture of excellence of government employees, Dubai electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organized a workshop to review its strategy. During this workshop, the Corporate Strategy Excellence Award, an annual ceremony, was handed out to individuals and departments who played the most prominent roles in implementing DEWA’s strategy. This new award was introduced to recognize the best division for Distinguished Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) Implementation. This workshop, which was held at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray hotel, was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and Heads of Divisions to conduct annual and regular reviews of DEWA’s strategy plan according to the latest updates. “Our vision is to be “a recognized world-class utility.” The work of every division represented here remains committed to this, which in turn remains committed to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Today, we stress this fact through one of His Highness’s quotes that, our vision is that we become one of the best governments in providing quality services, nurturing creative minds, building national talent, innovating solutions and adopting international best practices, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA. “Therefore, DEWA’s divisional heads and management team now bear responsibility for effectively communicating our vision, mission, motto and values to everyone at all levels in their respective divisions and departments. Doing so further improves the culture of DEWA as a Strategy-Focused Organization,” added His Excellency. “This workshop reflects DEWA’s continuous commitment to best practices in the field of strategic planning and implementation. Leadership and innovation are the milestone, which has contributed to DEWA’s growth and progress as a strategy-focused organization in line with the directives and aspirations of the Government of Dubai, which pursues its economic policy to attract investors and encourage partnerships between private and public sectors, implement best world practices and look into the future for sustainable development,” said His Excellency. His Excellency and top management from DEWA’s divisions reviewed the achievements made in the implementation of DEWA’s Strategic five-year plan and discussed how far DEWA’s divisions’ strategic maps and balanced scorecards are aligned to the organization as a whole. The workshop was followed by the Corporate Strategy Excellence Award, where trophies were presented to the top three Strategy-Focused Divisions in DEWA and to the Divisions with the Highest Strategy Awareness. Three top strategy representatives were also rewarded with certificates and cash prizes for their hard work and efforts to develop, communicate and implement strategy within their respective divisions. DEWA is the first organization in the Middle East to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame for its implementation of the Balanced Scorecard and adherence to the five principles of the Strategy-Focused Organization, developed by creators of the Balanced Scorecard, Drs. Kaplan and Norton. DEWA has also won several prestigious awards, including the Sword of Honour for Safety from The British Safety Council for being a pioneer in the field of safety and health systems, as DEWA was the only winner from the UAE in 2011. Also, DEWA won the Public Water Agency 2011 and Golden Award for Quality & Business Prestige, as part of the Global Water Summit 2011, which honors distinguished achievements.
