ESIA offers the Leadership Award in Solar Projects to the Vice Chairman of the DSCE

Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA) has offered the Leadership Award in Solar Projects 2012 to H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority(DEWA) in recognition of his achievements in promoting solar projects in Dubai. Also the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has obtained the Award of Policy Maker of the year, and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has obtained the Award of The Utility of the Year. This recognition was during the launch of the solar awards 2012 by the Emirates Solar Industry Association (ESIA), which is a non-profit, non-governmental association and aims to expand the use of all solar technologies at national and regional level. These awards aim to recognize the efforts and achievements of government and private organizations as well as individuals in the sector of solar energy industry in the region during the Middle East Summit of Solar Energy in Meydan Hotel Dubai. “I would like to thank Emirates Solar Industry Association for presenting these awards for the first time. This will promote the drive of renewable energy in the UAE, which falls in line with the “Green Economy For Sustainable Development” initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,” said H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer in a speech delivered after receiving the award. “Solar energy has become a reality in Dubai as it constitutes part of the energy mix in the emirate and will contribute 5% of total energy by 2030. Plans have been set and the project of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which includes solar plants that produce 1000 Megawatt in addition to the other utilities in the park like Research and Development Centre and Innovation Academy,” added His Excellency. “We coordinate with the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau to set the platform that comprises the legal framework, the technical system and the financial model to enable customers to connect renewable energy generated to the electricity grid,” “I’d like to say that all indications show that Dubai will become a pioneering model in renewable energy market in the region and will lead the drive towards a new future of sustainable energy,” concluded HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
