DEWA PARTICIPATES IN GLOBAL EVENTS TO EMPOWER AND ENHANCE THE ROLE OF WOMEN

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) Women’s Committee has launched several awareness initiatives for its employee on the local and global health and social issues such as ‘Pregnancy’ Diabetes and ‘Violence against Women and Children.’ In recognition of the United Nations’ (UN’s) ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women,’ DEWA’s Women’s Committee supported the ‘White Ribbon Day’ with an informative lecture by Widad Naser Lootah, an Emirati marriage counselor and lecturer on domestic violence which was attended by DEWA’s staff . “DEWA organizes several awareness and educational programs for its employee on continuous basis in line with its strategic plan derived from its vision as “a sustainable world class utility”, in order to enhance the economical, social and environmental growth in the Emirate of Dubai. In cooperation with other authorities, the Women’s Committee is working on the awareness of female employees on the issue of domestic violence, its reasons and effects on the family and its negative effects on work environment and productivity” said Khawla Almehairi, Head of Women’s Committee. These initiatives are organized in line with DEWA’s commitment to support, empower and enhance women involvement in family, social and economic development and to consolidate family values and to provide suitable environment”. “The Women’s Committee is keen to opt for suitable solutions to problems that general may encounter women who are supported by the Committee and the General Management support for the Committee directives and vision” she confirmed. “DEWA is looking at female employees empowerment as one of its top priority whereas, the total number of female employees has reached 1060 employee working in different divisions and departments. The national female employees represent 12% of the total working force in DEWA. The percentage of the national female employees represents 76% of the total female workers at DEWA, while UAE workers are representing 50% of the total national workers at DEWA. The number of national female workers working in technical positions has reached 205 employees compared to 600 female workers in other administrative jobs. The contribution of the female workers in the technical positions acquires a great importance as it’s considered the core business of DEWA” she concluded. “DEWA’s Women’s Committee is dedicated to supporting the international fight towards eliminating violence against women and children through ongoing internal campaigns” said Fatima Deemas, Vice-Chairman of DEWA’s Women’s Committee. DEWA also played and playing a great role in participating in national and global events such as the World Health Organisation’s (WHO’s) ‘World Diabetes Day’ by working with Dubai Health Authority to organise a number of initiatives focused on the reasons and prevention of diabetes
