Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) | Dubai Supreme Council of Energy organises power and water conservation workshop

The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) in collaboration with the Emirates Wild Life Society (EWS) organised a two-day training workshop, attended by over 60 representatives of more than 30 government departments in Dubai, on topics related to the conservation of power and water consumption in office buildings. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the DSCE, said that the DSCE seeks to raise awareness on the judicious use of electricity and water to ensure environmental sustainability in the Emirate of Dubai, in line with the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, that focuses on improved energy efficiency as a key strategic objective. “We are keen to partner with various government departments to effectively reduce electricity and water consumption by focusing on conservation. To achieve this, DSCE has organised several training sessions to improve energy management capabilities in government authorities and departments,” said Al Tayer. “We appreciate EWS’s role and cooperation with us in organising this workshop, aimed at enhancing the strategic conservation of electricity and water consumption in the Emirate by measuring the consumption and identifying technics needed for potential savings, as well as measuring the results,” added Al Tayer. “Our cooperation with EWS comes as part of our interest to exchange experiences with various parties including non-profit organisations, and we look forward to see the results of this cooperation. These workshops will promote the culture of conservation, save natural resources and strengthen the achievements of Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030,” said HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairabi, Secretary General of DSCE. “We are honoured and pleased to cooperate with DSCE for the training of officials from various government departments to reduce the carbon footprint in the workplace. Through the workshop we provided the tools and basic skills needed to assist government departments to reduce their carbon footprint through energy conservation and efficient water usage, which will enable them to positively contribute to Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, and reach its goal of reducing the rate of energy demand by 30% by the year 2030,” said Ida Tillisch, Acting Director General of Emirates Wildlife Society. “The work to reduce the production of waste and emissions of carbon emissions is now a strategic necessity for companies. We, at Tecom Investments, consider conservation of energy and water consumption as part of our culture. The benefits of adopting this strategy not only benefit the environment and society but also enable us to save operational costs without affecting the level of services we provide. Last year, Tecom Investments won the title of “Hero of Companies” from Emirates Wildlife Society and the World Wildlife Fund following the huge success we achieved in meeting our aspiration of reducing waste water, and carbon emissions. We will share our experiences with the rest of the world, because the main factor which helped our success is our commitment to work as a team to serve environmental issues, beginning with the vision and support of our senior management, down to the dedication of the technicians and workers on the ground,” said Mattar Al Kaabi, Executive Director-Building Facilities Management of Tecom Investments.
